There lives a very rich and strong king. All the people in his country are afraid of him. But is he happy? No, he thinks he’s ill and is often unhappy.

The doctors in his country can’t cure（治疗）him, so the king is angry with them. One day, two famous doctors from another country come to see him. The king says to them, “if you can cure me and make me happy, I’ll give you a lot of gold.”

The first doctor looks carefully over the king. He finds nothing wrong with him. “Oh, my king, you’re very well,” says the doctor, “You think you’re ill and that makes you unhappy.” Hearing these words, the king is angry and tells his soldiers to kill（杀死）the doctor.

The other doctor knows that he has to be careful. “My king, you’ll be all right if you find a happy person and wear his shoes,” he says. The king is pleased to hear his words, and he gives the doctor a bag of gold.

The king asks hundreds of people whether（是否）they are happy. All of them say they’re sometimes happy and sometimes unhappy. At last he meets a beggar（乞丐）who says he is always happy.

“Give me your shoes quickly,” says the king, “and I’ll make you very rich.” The beggar smiles and says, “Sorry, I never wear shoes.”

In the USA, there’re many types of restaurants. Fast food restaurants are very famous. You can find McDonald’s in many countries. You look at a menu on the counter（柜台）, and say what you’d like to eat. You pay the person who serves you. You take your food and sit down or take it away. There’s no need to leave a tip.

In a coffee shop you sit at the counter or at a table. Then the waitress（服务员）usually brings coffee when you sit down. You tell her what you’d like to eat and she brings it to you. You pay as you leave.

In a family restaurant the atmosphere（氛围）is casual（随意的）, but the waitress shows you where to sit. Often the waitress tells you her name, but you don’t need to tell her yours. When you pay, you add（添加）an extra（额外的）fifteen percent to the bill（账单）as a tip.

In top class（顶级的）restaurants, you need a reservation（预订）and you need to arrive on time. The waiter shows you where to sit. When you get your bill, check it and add fifteen to twenty percent to it as a tip for the waiter.
