The year 2022 will be a big year for sports in China, for it will hold not only the 24th Winter Olympics in Beijing, but also the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

On August 6th, 2018, the official emblem (会徽) for the Hangzhou Asian Games came out. The city won the hosting rights for the 2022 Asian Games in 2015. It will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games after Beijing and Guangzhou in 1990 and 2010.

First held in India in 1951, the Asian Games is important not only in Asia but also means a lot to China. The Beijing Asian Games was once the first large international sports event that was hosted by China. To make the Games a great success, Chinese people worked hard to prepare. Beijing built a great number of roads and stadiums (体育馆), including the famous Beijing Olympic Sports Centre and Asian Games village. The Games helped the world see China and its achievements.

For the coming 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou has already started building 33 sports venues. The themes for the Hangzhou Asian Games are “green, smart, economical (节俭) and civilized (文明).” All the Games’ buildings will be environmentally friendly.

Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle (挣扎; 奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death made him mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.

Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

There was nothing for Mary to do in the house, so every day she walked in the gardens. She did this before breakfast, and the fresh air made her hungry. She was so hungry that she even ate the porridge and enjoyed it.

After breakfast, Mary walked in the gardens and on the moor. She spent most of her time outdoors and began to feel healthier and happier than she had felt for a very long time.

One day, she walked around the wall without a door. Suddenly, she heard a bird singing. She looked up, and the robin was sitting on a branch that hung over the wall. She was pleased to see the bird and talked to it.

“No one is allowed in there,” Martha answered. “Even Mr. Craven never goes in there.”

“But why not? What’s wrong with the place?”

“I don’t know for certain,” Martha answered, but the story is that when Mr. Craven married, he and his young wife were very happy. They used to spend a lot of their time together in that garden reading and talking. Then one day, a branch of a tree fell down and hit Mr. Craven’s wife on the head. The next day she died. “Oh, that is such a sad story,” Mary said.

And then she thought something, but as she was thinking those things, she heard a cry. “What was that?” she asked Martha. Quickly, Martha answered, “Just the wind.” “No, it wasn’t,” Mary said. “It did not sound like the wind. And I heard a door shut somewhere.”

“If it wasn’t the wind,” Martha answered, “then it was Betty in the kitchen. She has a toothache.”

Mary looked at Martha and thought, “She is not telling me the truth. She knows something she doesn’t want me to know.”
