Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions of the last 50 years, but not everything that is said about them is good. Mobile phones are often believed to be the cause of a number of things: from poor eyesight and headaches to     17    .

There’s even one theory that mobile phones should     18     the disappearance of bees!

The theory is that the radiation (辐射) given off by mobile phones     19     bees’ navigation system (导航系统). Bees have a built-in system a bit like GPS and this helps them find their way back to their hives. But recently, thousands of bees have failed     20     their way home. It is believed they are dying far from their hives.

The problem     21     by beekeepers in America and is a lot more serious than it at first seems. The important thing about bees is that most of the crops in many countries of the world are pollinated by them. Without bees, the crops can’t continue to grow. Many beekeepers in Europe have reported     22     between 50 and 70 percent of their bees. Jim Piper, London beekeeper, said to the reporter, “My business is becoming     23    . Twenty-nine of my forty hives are now empty.”

Nobody knows     24     whether the theory is true or not, but it’s a fact that bees are disappearing in very large numbers. And we can’t manage without them. Einstein said that if all our bees disappeared, man would only live for four more years! If mobile phone theory is correct, we need to do something about it right now-before it’s too late.

六、阅读理解 添加题型下试题

阅读理解-单选(约340词) | 适中(0.65)
文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,介绍了音乐和语言能力之间的联系。

Is there a connection between music and language? According to recent studies, the answer is yes: Music helps develop certain language abilities in the brain.

A study from Northwestern University shows that playing a musical instrument can improve a person’s hearing ability. As a part of the study, two groups of people listened to a person talking in a noisy room. The people in the first group were musicians, while those in the second group had no musical training. The musicians were found to be able to hear the talking person more clearly.
Musicians hear better, says study leader Nina Kraus, because they learn to pay attention to certain sounds. For example, when the violinists play in an orchestra(管弦乐队), they must listen closely to what they are playing and ignore(忽视) the other sounds. In this way, musicians can hear certain sounds better, even in a room with lots of noise.
Gotfried Schlaug, a doctor at Harvard Medical School, works with stroke(中风) patients. Because of their illness, these people cannot say their names, addresses, or other information normally. However, they can still sing. Dr. Schlaug was surprised to find singing words helped his patients finally speak. Why does this work? Schlaug isn’t sure. Music seems to be able to make different parts of the brain active, including the bad parts. In some way, this helps patients use those parts of the brain again.
So music is not only enjoyable, but also good for us in many other ways. Playing an instrument or singing, says Nina Kraus, can help us do better in school and keep our brain sharp as we get older.

文章大意:本文介绍了中国剪纸艺术的历史和发展。

Chinese paper cutting is an art of cutting out pictures from paper with the help of a pair of scissors or a knife. In 2009, the Chinese paper cutting was added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Paper cutting originated (起源) in China, which has been around for over 1,500 years. But long before that, when paper wasn’t invented, Chinese people already used similar skills to make cutouts on leaves, leather and silk. It reached the top during the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912). From the common people to royal families (王室), paper cuttings could be seen everywhere.

In our daily life, the subjects of the paper cuttings can be anything, from historical events and fairy tale characters to plants and animals. The paper cuttings are so vivid that they look like real ones. In celebration of the Spring Festival, people usually make cutouts of the Chinese character “Fu” and put them on windows, walls and doors for good luck. Chinese character “Xi” is cut for the wedding ceremony.

Paper cutting may sound easy, but actually it’s much difficult to do well. “You can’t forget aesthetics (美学) when making Chinese paper cuttings. This art was invented for decoration from the very beginning,” said Fang Jianguo, who has made paper cuttings for over 30 years. “Before doing it, you have to learn how to draw well. Without good drawing skills, you can’t make good paper cuttings.”

Paper cutting tradition also has new development. Li Baofeng is a 54-year-old folk artist. “Traditional paper cuttings are often made with red paper, which seems to be a little boring. So I want to make something new,” says Li. “Scissors are still scissors. Techniques are improved based on traditional techniques.” She has made works in different colors which have amazing 3D effects.

Now more and more people love paper cutting works and buy them as gifts for their friends.
