When I was in primary school, there was a special boy in my class. His name was Ted. He sat next to me in class. Ted had serious problems in communicating with people. One always had to guess what he was saying. And most of my classmates did not like to be with him because his hands and shirts were always dirty. I tried to make him know the importance of being clean by telling him several times a day to wash his hands. But he just could not understand.
One day, our teacher Miss Miller walked up to Ted. Without saying anything, she took Ted to the washroom. Slowly, Miss Miller washed his hands and told him that he should keep himself clean. She did that every day for one month. Finally, Ted understood.
Miss Miller’s love has given me a good example to follow when I am doing my job. I always remember to teach my students by showing them the right ways to do things. And most important of all, I always remember to give them more time to learn and to grow up.

Keeping a balance(平衡) between work and life can be really hard. Working longer and harder doesn’t mean achieving(实现) more. Here are three suggestions on how to keep the work-life balance:
Show thanks
A smart way to create and live a happier life is to actively find things or people you’re thankful for. This influences not only your own personal state of mind but also that of others. You can send a handwritten card to the people you love or someone who means a lot to you. Try giving thanks for at least three things at the end of each day and see how it changes the way you feel.
Learn to say NO
Sometimes we have to say YES to things that we really don’t want to do. You should have the courage to live a life on your own terms and say YES only to the things that you really want to do. For everything else, start saying NO. When you start saying NO to most things, you’ll become more focused on things you’ve said YES to.
Have more fun
Think about what can get you excited. You can also take some risks, try something new or learn a new skill. If you need to get out of your zone(舒适区) to have more fun, just do it. Besides, it’s time to make things more exciting.
46. What do people think of keeping the balance between work and life?A.Difficult. | B.Exciting. | C.Interesting. | D.Useless. |

Once there was a poor lady who lived on a hill near the seashore(海岸). Her husband died. She had no children and lived a lonely life. She was so poor that she had to work hard.
But one night when she sat at the table, the lady said to herself, “I wish I could be useful to the world. Why can’t I do good to someone else besides myself?” At last, she came up with an idea.
She decided that she would keep a lighted(点燃的) lamp at the window for the sailors every night. She found that ships sometimes hit the rocks in the sea, since there was no lighthouse(灯塔) to warn them of the danger at night. Maybe her lamp would warn them when their ships came near the rocks on the coast.
The lady felt glad when the thought came into her mind. She found that, if she worked an hour longer each night, she could make enough money to pay for the oil for the lamp. So she worked late and made money to buy the oil and then she placed the lamp at the window each night. In this way she saved many lives.
She did this for five years without any reward(报酬), or the hope of reward. However, good deeds(行为) are often found out. The sailors whose lives had been saved began to send gifts to her from faraway countries. They sent her tea from China, cloth from India, silk from France and grapes from Spain. But the poor lady did not need these gifts to make her happy. She gave many of them to the poor and the sick.
She was happy with the thought that she was doing something good. So, as long as she lived, she would light her lamp each night and place it at the window.
