A woman was collecting money for a charity. The money she collected was going to be given to poor children who had no parents to take care of them. She went from house to house. She knocked on doors and asked for money. She always said the same thing, “Good morning. I’m collecting for a charity. Please give generously (慷慨地). We need $5,000.” Then she held out a collecting box. Most people put a few coins in the box.

An artist lived in one of the flats. He opened the door. “Good morning,” she said. “I’m collecting for a charity. Please give generously. We need $5,000.” The artist thought for a moment and then he said, “I’m sorry, but I don’t have any money. However, I’ll give you a painting. It’s worth (值) $400.” The woman thanked the artist and took the painting away.

A week later, she called on him again. “I’m sorry to trouble you again,” she said, “but we still need more money. I need another $ 100. Can you help?” “Of course,” the artist said, “I’ll increase (提高) the value (价值) of my painting to $500.”

When the bell rings, every student takes out an iPad. The light from the screens(屏幕) makes their young faces pretty and lively. That’s what happens every day at my school in the US. We use iPad in class.

I feel surprised and excited when I get an iPad the first day I get to the school. But it is not free. I spend about $100 renting(租) it for three years.

Every iPad at my school has a special learning system(系统) called Focus. Teachers put their teaching material like textbooks and PPTs on it. When we have classes, we enter the system and download(下载) the materials with our iPads.

It makes the classes interesting and efficient(高效). For example, a few weeks ago, we learned about London in the UK. Our teacher prepared a video. Through the video, we saw many places of interest in London. We could not only watch the video，but also see the words at the same time. Because of the video, I know more about the city.

However, there are still some bad points about learning with iPads. Some of my classmates play games or surf the Internet in class.

I believe the key to use iPads well is to have good self-control (自制), isn’t it?

Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, “Friends are God’s way of taking care of us.” But how do you find real friendship and keep it?

The American Writer Sally Seaman tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed（种子） and take care of it to make it grow.

First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has much money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient（耐心的）. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy（害羞的）. You should make each other happy and share your life.

But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If your friend doesn’t want to talk, you can write to him or her.

There are some steps to be friends again:

Tell him or her how you are feeling, say what your friend did wrong and explain（解释） why you did this or that. Don’t forget that friendship is the most important thing in your life.
