China successfully hosted the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing this year. There were many great moments during the competitions. There were also many active volunteers and lovely athletes.

“Welcome to China!” This simple greeting from volunteer Sun Zeyu warmed the heart of a US snowboarder（单板滑雪运动员）Tessa Maud at the Olympics opening ceremony（开幕式）. “The volunteers who said “Welcome to China” really make me tear up every time because they are so nice. We feel so welcomed.”said Maud in the video she shared on TikTok. Maud also shared her Chinese travels on social media. She became a big fan of Chinese food. Maud shared what she ate every day on TikTok — fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and Peking duck. What to eat each day was a hard choice for her. “Everything is so good,” she said.

Jenise Spiteri is also a snowboarder. She is from Malta. She became known as the “red bean bun girl”（红豆包女孩）in China after she took a big bite while waiting for her score. “Goodbye to the amazing workers who served our food every day,”she wrote on social media when she left the Olympic Village. In the picture, she holds a big red bean bun.

Another volunteer, Yang Jinhe, 18, started to work on COVID-related matters in mid-December. Back in 2008, he liked listening to the song You and Me very much. Now he said he really understands the meaning of “you and me” as well as the Olympic spirit（精神）of togetherness. “Even though the pandemic（流行病）is going on, we are standing here in Beijing 2022,” he said on the show Youth Power.

A dance performance taken from the poetic dance drama（诗意舞剧）Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting《只此青绿》has been considered（被认为）the most amazing program at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala.

The creators（创作者）of the poetic dance drama got inspiration（灵感）from a great ancient Chinese painting, A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers《千里江山图》by Wang Ximeng. Wang was a painter from the Song Dynasty. He spent half a year finishing the painting when he was only 18. Now the painting is at the Palace Museum. It has been on show to the public only four times since 1949. The 11.9-meter-long painting is a record（记录）of people’s lives and the natural scenery including mountains, rivers and villages of that time.

The poetic dance drama tells the story of a researcher from the Palace Museum who has spent all his time studying the painting. We can follow him to the moment when Wang was about to finish the artwork. “It is not to tell people how great the painting is, but to help people understand traditional Chinese culture,” says Xie Suhao, who plays the character.

Since last August, the dance poetic drama has been played more than 50 times in over 18 cities in China. “I hope our dance can be performed on more and bigger stages to show more people all over the world a beautiful China with a mix of old and new,” says Meng Qingyang, the lead dancer of Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting.

On 20th June 1702, I set off for Surat, on a ship called the Adventure（冒险）. And indeed “adventure” was really an appropriate name for that ship, and for everything that happened on the trip.

The first part of our trip went well. But later there were some terrible storms（暴风雨）. The winds were so strong that they sent our ship off course（航线）. We didn’t know where we were.

At last, when the storms stopped, we saw an island（岛）. We had no more drinking water, so the captain（船长）sent me to find some fresh water on the island. I set off with some other men in a small boat. And when we got there, I travelled around the island by myself while the men looked for water.

That was a big mistake. When I went back, there were no men and no boat! Then I saw them rowing back to our ship with a giant（巨人）following them in the sea! They were very afraid. I ran as fast as I could. I then climbed up a big hill and when I looked around, I saw fields. Then I saw other giants working in the fields.

“On my last trip, I was a giant on an island of tiny（小的）people and now I am a tiny person on an island of giant!” It was not a nice feeling. I was so sad and hid behind a big tree. I had to think of a plan, but at that time one of the giants saw me.

Su Yiming received a very special letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping on Feb. 24th, 2022. Who is Su Yiming? What did President Xi say to him?

Su Yiming is a snowboarder（单板滑雪运动员）. He was born in Jilin Province. He started skiing when he was four years old because his parents liked snowboarding. At the age of fourteen, he decided to become a professional snowboarder. Then he started training a lot, and spent about 320 days every year on snowboarding. On Feb. 17th, he got the gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. When Su got the medal, he was really excited. The next day would be his 18th birthday. He thought the medal was the best gift for his birthday. But the person that he wanted to thank the most was President Xi.

He wrote a letter to President Xi. In the letter, he said, “I really want to thank you and our great motherland from the bottom of my heart.” Su also said he would keep working hard and work for the nation（国家）. Su remembered that Xi met with him at the National Winter Sports Training Center in 2019. At that time, Xi encouraged（鼓励）him to show the new generation（一代人）of Chinese youth on the world stage.

In the reply from President Xi, Xi congratulated Su and other athletes on their excellent achievements at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Xi said that the new era（时代）is the era of dream chasers（追逐者）. It is the time for young people to realize their dreams. He hoped that young Chinese people always keep the motherland in their hearts, aim high and stay grounded.

“I was surprised and excited when I got the reply from President Xi. The letter will encourage me to work even harder in the future.” Su said.
