Mistakes are a part of life. I have made a lot of mistakes during my life and learned a lot from them.

I remember several years ago a mistake I made. I planned to fill up my truck with gas for the week. As I drove to the gas station about 18 miles away from my home, I thought of something I needed to pick up at Publix, which was on the way. So I stopped and bought the thing I wanted.

As I turned the key to start the engine, it did not start again. I tried my best to start it but failed. Then, I looked at the fuel tank gauge and saw that it had passed empty, the truck was out of gas. That was a big misatke.

So I called my wife to get a can of gas and bring it to me. I heard silence on the other end, and then I heard chuckling (轻笑). I said sarcastically (挖苦地), “I just want know if you can bring me a can of gas to Publix.” I think she could feel the frustration (沮丧) in my voice. That certainly was another mistake added onto the first mistake. “Oh,” she said, “I might be able to get over there in about three hours.” I did hear her chuckling over the phone. I pretended I did not hear her chuckling, which was another mistake.

On my fourth deep sigh, I saw my wife driving her van slowly and park right next to my truck. I saw her through the window with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen her wear. She got a can of gas out of her van. Then I emptied it into my truck’s gas tank. When finishing, I took my time going to the gas station and filling up my truck. Because I knew I would experience the next stage of my wife’s laugh about my mistake as soon as I got home.

My biggest lessons have come from mistakes I’ve made. But the lessons only come when I deal with the error and make it right. It’s one thing to deal with the mistakes at hand, but it’s another thing to be wiser from secret faults.

Liu Wei, 33, is a famous pet detective in Shanghai. He and his team work on finding families’ lost pets. “We have successfully helped find more than 1,000 pets. Besides cats and dogs, there are other pets like birds, lizards and hamsters.” Liu said.

According to Liu, being a pet detective requires a sense of responsibility (责任), kindness and love for animals. Pet detectives also need to be clear-eyed. They also make good use of high-tech products, such as infrared thermal imaging devices (红外热成像仪).

“Searching for pets needs lots of technical knowledge, for example, when we look for cats, knowing their habits is a must” said Liu. “In many big cities, cats and dogs have become an important part of many families and are taken good care of. What we look for are not just pets, but family members. ”

Apart from pet undertakers and detectives, some people work as pet food testers, pet sitters and pet trainers.A study says that the booming (繁荣的) pet market shows people’s improved living standards.

Now it’s clear that we all need to act on climate change, however, will people really be prepared to make changes in their lives? Can we really remake society to be much greener than it is now?

My answer is YES. I’m feeling optimistic, especially compared to if you’d asked me a few years ago. And that’s mostly because of one factor:Batteries. As we watched, over the past ten years, our computers get faster and screens get thinner; batteries have greatly improved too.

According to the European Patent (专利) Office, the number of battery patents grew by an average of 14 percent every year between 2005 and 2018. ▲ the amount of power that can be stored in the same sized battery has tripled (三倍增长) in the last ten years. For example, back in 2012 a new Nissan Leaf Battery could support only around 70-80 miles. Today, Leaf can support over 230 miles without needing to recharge. And the costs will continue to fall.

Because of better batteries, last September, 15 percent of all new vehicle registrations (登记) were pure electric vehicles. So the change is starting to happen.

Storing energy has always been a problem for the grid (电网). For a long period, only a bit of electricity is stored for later use, which leads to lots of power waste. But better batteries make it possible to store large amounts of energy from the grid.

Perhaps, in the near future, in our homes we might also have a big battery in the garage. This world take power from the grid (or maybe even solar panels on the roof), and power the appliances and lights in our homes.

I was trapped on the island after the ship crash. The life on the island was not easy. After months, ongoing searching, I found a safe place to stay, a small cave.

Then, I decided to write a b    70     . I wanted to describe my daily activities and put my thoughts to paper. I started by writing down my experience from the very first day on the island.
