With the development of China, many traditional ink paintings (水墨画) show the changes in southern Chinese villages. Shang Xinzhou, a painter from the Guangxi Arts University, has been creating traditional ink paintings for many years. His paintings show the life in poor areas.

“Thanks to my experience in Duomai Village, I can make the paintings much lovelier,” said the 36-year- old painter, who has spent two and a half years working there.

Shang’s paintings show the progress in the fight against poverty. His works show changes from difficult local conditions and people’s hard times to better conditions and happy lives.

“I like drawing people’s real lives, and paintings can be a bridge for communication between the local people and me.” said Shang.

During his stay, he put his paintings about the local life on the Internet to help villagers sell their products. To make the nightlife there richer, he sold paintings to buy streetlights, so people could enjoy square dancing in the evening.

Shang’s excellent works were popular in the village. “I love his paintings and they show great changes in our village,” said a farmer.

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics were more than a sporting event. They were also a show for science and technology. They are helping athletes (运动员) become “faster, higher, stronger” and offering you a great game-watching experience with the support of 5G. Let’s look at some technologies behind the Beijing Winter Olympics.

In so many ways, cyberspace (网络空间) reflects (反映) the real world. People ask for information, play games, and share hobby tips. Others buy and sell products. Still others look for friendship, or even love.

Unlike the real world, however, your knowledge about a person is limited (限制) to words on a computer screen. Age, identity (身份) and appearance (外表) mean very little in cyberspace. However, a person’s thoughts are what really matter. So even the shyest person can become a chat-room star.

Usually, this “faceless” communication doesn’t create problems. Identity doesn’t really matter when you’re in a chat room discussing your ideas or hobbies. In fact, this stress (压力) on the ideas makes the Internet a great place for exciting conversations. Where else can so many people come together to chat?

But some Internet users want more than just someone to chat with. They’re looking for serious relationships. Is cyberspace a good place to find true friends? That answer depends on whom you ask. Some of these relationships actually succeed. Others fail.

Supporters say that the Internet allows people to get to know each other intellectually (智力地) first. Personal appearance doesn’t get in the way. But others think that no one can truly know another person in cyberspace. Why? Because the Internet gives users a lot of control over how others think of them. Internet users can carefully change their words to fit whatever image (形象) they want to give. In a sense, they’re not really themselves.

All of this may be fine if the relationship stays in cyberspace. But not knowing a person is a big problem in a relationship. With so many unknowns, it’s easy to let people’s imagination “fill in the blanks (空白).” This unavoidably (不可避免地) leads to disappointment (失望) when people meet in person. How someone imagines an online friend is often quite different than the real person.

So, before looking for friends in cyberspace, remember the advice of Clifford Stoll: “Life in the real world is far richer than anything you’ll find on a computer screen.”

22. Even the shyest person can become a chat-room star because what’s really important is a person’s ________.
A.ageB.identityC.appearanceD.thoughts
23. What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
A.The face is the reflection of heart.
B.Don’t judge (评价) a book by its cover.
C.Things are not always what they seem.
D.Inner (内部的) beauty is more important than appearance.
24. What does “This” in Paragraph 6 refer to?
A.People’s imagination.B.A relationship.
C.The online friend.D.The real friend.
25. What do we know about the passage?
A.It is possible that people can’t find true friends online.
B.Appearance is important for relationship online.
C.A shy person will surely become talkative online.
D.People are encouraged to create images in cyberspace.

Last week the electricity in my flat went out.     26     My daily evening is spent watching TV and scrolling (滚动) through social media (社交媒体). That night this wasn’t possible. My roommate and I weren’t prepared with candles and matches. We just depend on electricity.

So for me it was an early night.     27     That night, losing our electricity felt like losing a basic necessity, as basic as running water. But really, electricity is a thing that we’ve grown to take for granted (认为…… I use electricity all the time, even when it’s not really necessary.     28     And as I’m writing this, I have my lights on, even in the middle of the day when I don’t really need them.

29     It leads to global warming. It is harming our environment and we need to do what we can to stop it. Not only that, but if we continue to use the same large amount of energy, we will soon run out of it.

How would we survive in a world without electricity? Our daily lives go around it. Lots of things wouldn’t be able to work as usual.     30     So, shouldn’t we start preparing for it now? Cutting down on our use of electricity would save energy resources so that they could last for longer. And if everyone does it, we can make a big difference.

A.Yet we know one day we will run out of it.
B.Our overuse of electricity is a big problem.
C.This left me in complete darkness the whole night.
D.I couldn’t help thinking “Do we depend too much on electricity?”
E.I turn on the TV in the background even when I’m not watching it.
