A primary school headmaster became the latest star on the Internet for dancing with his students.
Zhang Pengfei works in Xiguan Primary School in Linyi, Shanxi Province. Every morning, he leads 700 pupils to do the “ghost shuffle” routine(跳鬼步舞操) on the playground. They dance for 30 minutes every day. They like dancing more than doing the old exercise routine, so they don’t do the old one now.
“I thought we needed a change because the students lost interest in doing the old exercise routine though it was useful for pupils,” Zhang told the reporter. After all, they started to do the old exercise routine in 1951.
Mr. Zhang saw a group of people doing the routine by accident. Then he decided to learn it on his own. “I thought the dance would be great for kids,” he said. “The music is energetic and it really makes children relax.” In October 2018, he introduced the dance to all the pupils of his school. Soon even teachers and workers there joined in the activity, “Now the pupils don’t keep playing games on their phones. Of course, the girl was very surprised. She was still trying to work out what had happened, when outside her window she saw a giraffe blowing up a balloon. Then more and more animals appeared outside the window. She laughed happily. The little girl didn’t tell anyone about this because who would believe her? Even so, those strange characters ended up putting joy back in her heart, and in her body.
Before long, her health improved so much that she was able to go back to school again. There she got to talk to her friends, and told them all the strange things she had seen. While she was talking to her best friend, she saw something sticking out of her friend’s schoolbag. Then she realized it was her friend who wore those dresses to cheer her up. If you had asked scientists whether monkeys and chimpanzees (黑猩猩) had a sense of right and wrong before they had a deep study on monkeys, they would have told you that it seemed very impossible.
It was believed that only humans can imagine the future. Some people were told that most monkeys are cleverer than most dogs. Besides, if all dogs seem down when they’ve done something bad, you’d have been told that dogs learn such action so as to please their owners. It doesn’t mean that dogs understand why their owners might be angry at them. It doesn’t mean that animals can think about the future.
Now, however, it appears that chimpanzees and monkeys may be able to think about the future. Santino is a chimpanzee who lives at a zoo in Sweden. It is famous for his bad temper (脾气). Santino dislikes being looked at by visitors and he throws stones at them.
Before visitors walked into the zoo, he must have decided that he needed to be prepared for visiting days. He began collecting stones so that he would be fully ready to throw when people came to see him. The interesting thing was that Santino would only collect stones when visitors were expected. In winter, when the zoo was closed, he didn’t make troubles.
Santino’s action is a clear example of an animal planning for the future. It’s also an example of how we ought to check that “scientific” belief are based on facts rather than opinions. It seems likely that within ten years, we shall have formed a completely different view of animal intelligence (智力).
23. What do scientists think of animals before? ________A.Animals can understand their owners. |
B.Animals can think about the future. |
C.Animals can share people’s happiness and sadness. |
D.Animals can’t know the right and wrong. |

C.Santino’s action is a good example of animals thinking about the future. |
D.People have exactly known the intelligence of animals. |
A.Can animals talk? | B.Can animals think? |
C.Do all animals have a bad temper? | D.Are animals cleverer than humans? |
In 2006, the 24 solar terms (节气) were listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China, and they were added to the UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list ten years later.
The 24 solar terms which were born in China several thousand years ago are a knowledge system about time. They show Chinese people’s hope to achieve harmony (和谐) with nature. After the 24 solar terms achieved recognition from UNESCO, a new organization which spreads the cultural heritage of the 24 solar terms was set up.
“We want to spread: and protect: traditional culture as well as develop it in a creative way, through our efforts together,” said the leader of the organization. Some experts did more research, gave speeches and wrote books. Some groups in the organization organized some shows and competitions. Weiwei, the winner of the second prize of a competition, produced a long painting describing some customs related to each term.
“When creating this painting, I realized that 24 solar terms affected people’s lives. For example; in many places, people have the custom of celebrating the beginning of winter. When winter comes, agricultural (农业的) activities end, so people wear new clothes to greet each other. It means many folk customs are closely related to agricultural activities,” says Wei.
“Neixiang, County, Henan Province, has a history of giving a performance of dachunniu (beating the spring cow) to celebrate the beginning of spring. It also means outset (开始) of spring plowing (耕地). Farmers do their work according to the 24 solar terms.”

China’s second female astronaut, Wang Yaping, has given the country’s first-ever video lecture from space. The whole lecture lasted about 40 minutes.
Speaking to students through a live video, from the Tiangong-I space laboratory. Ms. Wang used spinning tops (旋转的陀螺), a ball and some water to explain physics in zero-gravity (失重), with the help of a fellow astronaut.
Ms. Wang used different experiments to demonstrate (证明) the concepts (概念)of weight and mass (质量) in space. Towards the end of the class, Ms. Wang made a film (薄膜) of water using a metal ring. She then turned the film of water into a water ball by pouring more water onto it.
Around 330 primary and secondary school students watched the lecture from a special classroom in Beijing, where they could also ask Ms. Wang questions through a live video.
From time to time, the students greeted her lecture with warm applause (掌声). When answering a student’s question, Ms. Wang described what she could see in space.
“The stars we see are much brighter, but they do not twinkle (闪烁),” she said, “The sky we see isn’t blue, but black. And every day, we can see the sun rise 16 times because we circle the Earth every 90 minutes.”
About 60 million students and teachers around China also watched the lecture live on TV.
