I am writing about your January bill, which I am returning with this letter. I am not going to pay this bill. Last month I bought a table and four chairs for $65.50. They were sent to me on December 18. That night one leg of the table broke while my wife was putting our dinner on it. It fell on one of the chairs, and that broke, too. Our $2.50 steak (牛排) landed on the floor, and the dog ate it.

I spoke to the salesman who had sold me the table and the chairs. He told me to write you a letter. I wrote to you on December 20, saying that I was not going to pay for the furniture. On December 21 some men came and took it back to the store.

Please do something about your records. I do not want to receive another bill for the furniture which I returned.

About 75,000 people are moving to the cities a day to look for jobs, but only 70% of t    55     can find jobs.

Man did not have to think about the protection of his environment in the past. There were not many people on the Earth, and natural resources seemed to be unlimited.

Today, things are different. There are too many people on the Earth. We are using up our natural resources too quickly, and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue like this, human life on the Earth will not survive.

Everyone realizes today that if too many fish are taken from the sea, there will soon be none left. Yet, with modern fishing methods, more and more fish are caught. We know that if people cut down more trees, forests will disappear and nothing will grow on the land.

We realize that if rivers are polluted with waste products from factories, we will die. However, in most countries, waste products are still put into rivers or into the sea, and there are few laws to stop this.

We know, too, that if the population of the world continues to rise at the present rate, in a few years, there will not be enough food.

What can we do to solve these problems?

If we eat more vegetables and less meat, we will easily get more food. Land that is used to grow crops can feed five times more people than land where animals are kept.

The world population will not rise so quickly if people use modern methods of birth control.

Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, our living place will be better and cleaner in the future.

Have you ever taken traditional Chinese medicine? Do you like its taste?

Some people dislike it because of its bitter(苦的) taste, but more and more people are becoming interested in traditional Chinese medicine for the reason that it’s an effective way to cure(治疗) illnesses. For example, if you have a sore throat, you could drink hot water with Gancao.

Chinese people have been using traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Before the western medicine appeared in China, Chinese doctors went to the mountains to pick herbs(草药). Then they made the herbs into Chinese medicine soup to cure patients. When we talk about Chinese medicine, we always think of Li Shizhen, one of the most famous doctors in ancient China. He used to travel in the countryside with a bag of herbs and cure patients. He spent 27 years writing Compendium of Material Medica(《本草纲目》).

In 2020, COVID-19(新型冠状病毒) hit China and many other countries. Ever since then, traditional Chinese medicine has played an important role in the fight against COVID-19. It’s reported that 91.5% of the COVID-19 patients in China received the traditional Chinese medicine treatment (治疗), and it worked well on more than 90% of these patients. In September, 2020, ZhangBoli was honored as “the People’s Hero” for his contributions(贡献). Zhang shared the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine like Lianhua Qingwen with foreign doctors.

In a word, traditional Chinese medicine is the treasure of China.
