Some sports are rather interesting and people everywhere like them. Football, for example, is very popular in the world. People from different countries cannot understand each other, but after a game they often become very friendly to each other.

Coffee has become the most popular drink in America. Today American people drink more coffee than people in any other countries. People drink coffee at breakfast, at lunch, at dinner and between meals. They drink hot coffee or coffee with ice in it. They drink it at work and at home.

People around the world drink coffee. Some people like coffee that is black and strong, but other people like coffee with cream (奶油) or sugar, or both cream and sugar in it. In all the ways it is served, coffee has become an international drink.

We live in different places. For example, some people live in the mountains; some people live on plains (平原); some people live near water.

Mary lives near the sea. The sea is blue. She likes to play on the beach (沙滩) with her friends.

Tom lives by a lake. The lake is very big. The water is clear. He often goes boating with his family on fine days. Sometimes he goes fishing with his father on Sundays.

Jack lives in the mountains. The mountains are very high. In summer, it’s very cool there.

In winter, the mountains are all white. Jack likes to play in the snow with his sister.

Jim lives on a plain. He likes flying kites when the weather is fine.

Tony lives in the desert (沙漠). It is very hot and dry. It doesn’t get much rain. Tony likes to ride his camel all around.

Well, Mom told me not to lie. I think I’m 100% honest (诚实的) all the time, and I think it’s not that hard.

In fact, I was much more honest than I was a week ago. For example, the other day I talked with my friend Sam.

       And yesterday, my parents had a birthday party for my grandfather.

Most people don’t like a person as honest as me. So don’t ask me how George Washington ever got to be president (总统).

We all love food. But when you can’t finish your meal, how do you feel? You might think that wasting a little bit of food isn’t a big deal.

But when a whole school started to save food in their cafeteria (食堂), there was a big change. At Hengyang No. 1 Middle School in Hunan province, students are told to take no more food than they need. “There used to be 100 kg of food waste (浪费) every day. But now, the amount (数量) of waste is down (下降了) by 75 percent,” said the cafeteria’s manager.

In China, people waste 35 million (百万) tons of food each year. That is enough to feed the entire country of South Korea (韩国) for a year.

Food waste is a big problem around the world. According to the United Nations (UN, 联合国), there are 820 million people living in hunger today. But every year, the world wastes 1.3 billion (十亿) tons (吨) of food. That’s one-third of all the food we have.
