Mike showed great learning ability and interest in the “how” and “why” behind things at a very young age. He began to study computer programming at age 5. He taught himself on the Internet and put his learning into practice. He has learned 10 languages.

Also, he is improving another skill: written communication. “My idea is no use to anyone if I can’t express it,” he explained.

“Mike does well in all subjects,” his mother said. “When he has difficulties, he will try to find a way out.” His father was satisfied with Mike’s non-academic (非学业的) achievements. “They mean much more,” his father said.

Mike has started two technology companies. And he has a bigger dream for the future. “I really want to make things easier for people, especially the old,” Mike explained. “The next, maybe a health care robot.”

The Palace Museum also known as the Forbidden City, is shaping a new image for itself. With technology, it brings 600 years of history and culture closer to visitors.

The museum opened websites in Chinese and English. Visitors could check the latest information and book tickets on them before their trip. Interestingly, to attract more young visitors, there is also a website for children. It shows information and notices in short sentences with colorful cartoons.

Technology is making the visiting experience impressive(令人印象深刻的). The Palace Museum opened a digital gallery(数字馆) at Duanmen Gate. With VR, visitors may walk directly into the emperor’s living room and bedroom, make food that emperors had, wear their clothes and see their collections. Visitors can even talk to an AI senior minister(大臣)! Although buildings are of the same style in this big museum, visitors won’t get lost. A real time map with audio guide(语音导览器) on WeChat leads visitors to all the halls they plan to visit. It tells the buildings’ stories along the way.

Visitors can enjoy the museum home by visiting its online shops. Things like watches, books, paintings and scarves are quite popular among young people. Another way to enjoy the museum back home is following it on Weibo. Six million fans there have seen wonderful distant views of the museum. Don’t miss them!

On a windy day in June, Fourth Class took the train to Chinatown. We had begun to learn Putonghua and our teacher said this excursion would let us practice our language skills and learn more about Chinese culture.

We entered Chinatown through the arched(拱形的) entrance gate with red painted wooden pillars(柱子). Big stone lions sat on each side. Then I noticed that the street signs were written in both Chinese and English. I photographed the sign for Hay Street.

The next place we visited was the Chinese Garden of Friendship which was very peaceful. There were waterfalls, hidden stone paths and a beautiful teahouse. We had a wonderful time there.

At last it was time for our Chinese lunch. We entered a big restaurant that had red lanterns hanging from the roof and red dragons on the walls. The waiters greeted us in Putonghua and we answered them in Putonghua. We were shown how to use chopsticks and how to choose from the menus with Chinese writing.

At 2:30 we left Chinatown. We were all very tired. On the train, our teacher told us her experience in China. She was just back from seeing the Great Wall of China. It’s like a long dragon winding its way. We were told it is the longest wall in the world. As we were listening, one student, who I couldn’t name, fell asleep on the train and snored loudly. His face turned red when he woke up!

In the past, I often told my Chinese classmates how to speak English. Now there are more people than ever who are studying Chinese. I can understand why—it’s a fascinating language, and there are always new words to be discovered! I cannot forget our excursion to Chinatown.

Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you to develop a healthy attitude (态度). But how to be confident? Here are some suggestions.

●Speak loudly

When you are not confident, you can’t do well what you want to do. You speak in a voice so low that other people can hardly hear you.     31     The high voice can help you become more confident.

●Play sports

Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer. Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed.     32

Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody laugh? Give yourself praise for the good things you’ve done.

●Get rid of fear

Fear comes along with failure. But it’s easy to overcome if you know that failure is part of your life.     34     Try to start again and believe you can do better.

●Pick up a hobby

If you like singing, sing as much as you can.     35     And it will make you joyful and confident.
