There are three airports (机场) in New York. When you arrive at one of them, you can take a bus or taxi to any place in New York.

Public transport (公共交通). In New York there’s a good bus and subway (地铁) service. If you are planning to use the subway a lot, you should buy a subway ticket for ten journeys because it’s cheaper. But you don’t have to use public transport, because there are lots of places you can go to on foot, like The Empire State Building (帝国大厦), 5th Avenue and Central Park. The New York taxis are a part of the city experience (经历), so you should take at least one taxi during your visit!

Hotels. There are lots of good hotels in New York. The best is The Plaza on 5th Avenue but you don’t have to pay a lot to stay in the city; there are lots of small hotels.

Eating out. There are many kinds of food in New York and you shouldn’t eat at McDonalds every day. There are good restaurants in Little Italy and Chinatown, for example.

Shopping in New York is fun. There are big shops on 5th Avenue. They are open seven days a week. But be careful when you look at the prices; you have to pay a special 8% tax (税) on everything you buy in New York.

Places to see. Finally, there are a lot of places to see in New York — Times Square, the Statue of Liberty. And you shouldn’t go home without climbing the Statue of Liberty.

The Lost Boys are very happy to have a “mother” called Wendy. Wendy cooks for the boys and mends their socks and trousers. She’s very busy, but she likes being their mother. She doesn’t worry about her mother and father, but she worries about John and Michael. They are starting to forget their old life. Perhaps this is because there are so many exciting adventures(冒险) in Neverland.

One night, for example, the Indians(印第安人) attack(攻击) their house underground. Some of the Indians go into the holes in the trees and can’t get out again. The other Indians have to pull them out like corks from bottles.

Another day Peter saves Tiger Lily, an Indian princess, from Captain Hook. The Indians become Peter’s friends after that. They protect(保护) the Lost Boys from the pirates(海盗).

But this is their last evening on Neverland. Wendy puts John and Michael and the Lost Boys to bed. She starts to tell them their favourite story. Usually Peter puts his hands over his ears because he doesn’t like this story, but tonight he sits and listens with the others.

In this story, Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling have three children, says Wendy. “These children have a nurse called Nana. One evening Mr. Darling puts Nana outside in the yard because he is angry with her. That night the children fly away,” Wendy continues, “to Neverland. Now, just think about the unhappy parents without their children. The mother always leaves the window open for her children to fly back.”

“You’re wrong about mothers, Wendy,” Peter says angrily. “They lock the window. They forget you. They put another little boy in your bed.”

Suddenly, John and Michael both cry together: “Wendy, let’s all go home.”

At last Wendy and the children fly back to London and Mr. and Mrs. Darling adopt(收留) the Lost Boys.

How could we tell time if there were no watches or clocks anywhere in the world?

The sun might be the world’s first “clock”, except in the far north, where the Eskimos（爱斯基摩人）live. There, it’s dark most of the winter, and light most of the summer. But in most of the world, if you don’t have a clock that shows time, you still know that when the sun shines, it’s day, and when it’s dark, it’s night. The sun can not only tell you whether（是否）it’s day or night but also it’s morning, noon, or afternoon. When the sun is almost directly（恰好）overhead, it’s noon.

People who live near the sea learn from the tides. In the daytime, for about six hours, the water rises higher and higher on the beach. And then it goes down and down for about six hours. The same thing happens again at night. There are two high tides and two low tides every 24 hours. Seamen on a ship know time by looking at the moon and the stars. The whole sky is their clock. In some places in the world the wind comes up at about the same time every day or changes direction or stops blowing. In these places the wind can be the clock.

A sand clock is an even better clock. If you had fine dry sand in a glass, you would have what is called an hourglass. The sand in the hourglass goes from the top part to the bottom part in one hour. When the hourglass is turned over, the sand will take another hour to go back again.

There are about 13 different kinds of lions in the world. Lions are called the king of animal world. They are big and strong. We can find wild lions in Africa and India.

Lions live as a family. Lions show great difference between males(雄性) and females(雌性). Male lions have long hair on the back of their necks. Females do not.

Males and females both have very strong mouths. They can break the neck of other animals with one bite. One lion will usually kill between 10 and 20 large animals each year for food. Lions can live in Africa because they can live without water for up to one month. They have no trouble during dry(干燥的) times. It’s amazing.

Eating habits are different in different countries. The Chinese have a saying “Eat good things for b    81    , eat a big meal for lunch, but eat less at dinner.” Many people in the USA agree that one s    82     a day with a good breakfast, but their ideas about lunch and dinner are d    83    .

Most people in America only give themselves a s    84     time to have their lunch, so they eat a small lunch. After work, they can have m    85     time to eat a big dinner.
