hoverboard
If you’re looking to buy a gift for your children, why not choose something popular and get the best hoverboard?
What is a Hoverboard?
A hoverboard is a two-wheeled personal transportation device (设备). It’s electrical and became highly popular in 2015 because of a popular 1980’s movie. Usually, this self-balancing device operates like a powered skateboard. _________
The device may have many designs, but the mechanism itself is simple. Basically, a standard hoverboard includes:
●Battery: stores the electrical power. Almost all hoverboards use a high-watt lithium-ion battery(高瓦锂电池).
●Gyroscope (one for each wheel): allows riders to tilt (倾斜) the hoverboard while keeping balance and changing their direction.
●Motor (one in each wheel): provides the power to the wheels to keep the rider balanced and upright.
●Logic board: uses as the hoverboard brain. It deals with data-your speed, tilt, etc.-and sends information to the motors. This unit controls the power of the board so riders can change their speed.
All the above work together to control the power and tilt of the hoverboards so the rider is balanced, upright and moving at a suitable speed.
Where is a hoverboard legal (合法)?
Although hoverboards are wildly popular, they are still not “street﹣legal”. At present, some places don’t allow anyone under 16 to use these devices, like campus buildings, parks, shopping malls and subway stations. Some places have also put speed limits on the devices and set a limit to their use to bike paths. However, you are free to enjoy in open areas, including your yard.
28. Which of the following is the most suitable title for _________?A.Why Buy a Hoverboard? |
B.How Does a Hoverboard Work? |
C.How to Use a Hoverboard? |
D.How is a Hoverboard Made? |
A.on campus | B.in parks | C.on bike paths | D.in shopping malls |
A.To judge a gift’s quality. |
B.To introduce functions of the latest hoverboards. |
C.To compare new hoverboard models. |
D.To recommend a gift choice. |
I needed to buy a digital camera, one that was simply good at taking good photos, maybe sometimes for magazines. I went online, spent 15 minutes reading product reviews on good websites, wrote down the names of three top recommendations and headed for my nearest big friendly camera store. There in the cupboard was one of the cameras on my list. And it was on special offer. I pointed at it and asked an assistant, “Can I have one of those?” He looked perturbed (不安). “Do you want to try it first?” he said. It didn’t quite sound like a question. “Do I need to?” I replied. “There’s nothing wrong with it?” This made him look a bit unhappy and I started to feel bad. “No, no. But you should try it.” he said. “Compare it with the others.”
I looked across at the others: shelves of similar cameras along the wall, offering a wide range (范围) of slightly different prices and discounts (折扣), with each company selling a range of models based around the same basic box. With so many models to choose from, it seemed that I would have to spend hours weighing X against Y, always trying to take Z and possibly H into my choice. But when I had finished, I would still have only the same two choices that I had entered the store with: first, soon after I carried my new camera out of the shop, it would be worth half what I paid for it; and second, my wonderful camera would very quickly be replaced by a new model.
In the end, I agreed to try the model I had chosen. The assistant seemed a nice man. So I let him take out my chosen camera from the cupboard, show how it took excellent pictures of some shoppers... and when he started to introduce the special parts, I stopped him and asked whether I needed to buy a carry-case and a memory card as well.
Why do we think that new choices still offer us anything new? Perhaps it is because they offer a chance to avoid facing the fact that our real choices in this culture are far more limited than we would like to imagine.
31. What does the writer mean by the sentence “it would be worth half what I paid for it”?A.He should get a 50% discount. |
B.The camera would soon fall in value. |
C.The quality of the camera was not good. |
D.The price of the camera was quite high. |
A.knew very little about it |
B.didn’t believe the shop assistant |
C.had a special interest in taking pictures of shoppers |
D.wanted to make sure the one he chose would be the best |
A.people waste too much money on cameras |
B.cameras have become an important part of our daily life |
C.customers don’t need so many choices when buying a product |
D.famous companies care more about the quality of their products |
Today we can do everything with apps. However, when it comes to technology and health care, chances and challenges come together.
Telemedicine can allow a patient to use technology to see the doctor online and get a diagnosis(诊断) and instructions without leaving home. In addition, there are many patient websites. These allow for different kinds of interactions about our health needs without the medical team.
However, every coin has two sides. What might be on the other side of techno-health care?
Firstly, we should think about the health care experience as a whole. A usual visit to a doctor begins with a receptionist(接待员), who can see and know how a patient is doing. This may influence the treatment effect. It’s impossible that a patient website will have such intuition.
Next, sharing the details of one’s life requires trust, which takes time to build. This is certainly true in health care, where patients can share some of life’s best and worst moments with doctors. This human touch maybe isn’t there over the smartphone.
Lastly, test results can be difficult to understand. When someone without a medical degree sees a flagged(打记号的) result with no explanation on the website, there’s room for all kinds of stories to form in their minds—and also great worry.
So how does medicine adapt(适应) to the new technology age? Very talented companies are working on it. There is medical equipment(设备) that can be used at home to send necessary signs and heart sounds through telemedicine. It seems likely that some companies will find a way to explain test results.
But what it will not achieve is the warmth of human interaction and touch. Patients often need someone to listen to and care about their journey story, which will never be realized through technology. Technology should be a tool, but depending on it completely will most certainly have unexpected effects. Let’s not allow our humanity to be one of them.
34. What is the advantages of techno-health care?A.A doctor can see and know how a patient is doing. |
B.It offers the patient a way to get a diagnosis easily. |
C.A doctor can share the details of patient’s life. |
D.Patients can understand the test results easily. |
A.an ability to understand | B.an interesting experience |
C.a chance to answer | D.a wise decision |
A.Patient websites require trust from doctors. | B.Talented companies can give medical advice. |
C.Flagged results may cause worry for patients. | D.Medical equipment collects patients’ stories. |
A.technology can deal with unexpected effects |
B.we can depend on techno-health because it is helpful |
C.it is difficult to adapt to the new technology age |
D.techno-health care should consider humanity |

Sunshine, beaches and coconut—many people think Hainan is a paradise(天堂). But did you know it’s a paradise for plants and animals, too?
Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, in the south of Hainan Island, has the most concentrated and well-preserved tropical rainforest in China. President Xi Jinping visited it in April 2022.
The national park covers 4,269 square kilometers, or one-seventh of the island. More than 95 percent of the park is virgin forest and is home to 3,653 types of vascular plants and 540 types of terrestrial vertebrates(陆生脊椎动物).
The park is the only habitat(栖息地)of the world’s most endangered primate(灵长类动物)—the Hainan gibbon(长臂猿). They look like monkeys but have no tails. They live in trees and eat fruits and leaves from more than 130 plants. The number of Hainan gibbons has increased from fewer than 10 in the 1980s to 36 in 2022. This shows China’s achievements in environmental protection.
Not just a home to animals, the park is a “live museum” of amazing plants. More than 400 kinds of plants grow only in Hainan. Cycas hainanensis(海南苏铁)is a wild plant native to the island. With feather-like leaves, this plant can live up to 200 years old.
With so many plants and animals, the biodiversity level of the park is similar to that of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It’s a treasure for both China and the world.
