June 8 is World Ocean Day. About 80 percent of life on Earth depends on the ocean and coasts, and more than a third of humans live in coastal areas or on small islands. The ocean provides mankind(人类) with more than $21 trillion(万亿) every year in food, energy and transportation.

There is nothing as enjoyable as having a day out in the fresh air and sunshine, but if you’re not careful, you may get sunburned. You might be surprised to learn that not only humans get sunburned. This is a problem for some animals, too.
Animals without much hair such as elephants and pigs are most likely to get sunburned. Luckily, many of these animals have their own ways to protect their skin.
Pigs, for example, like to roll in the mud (在泥里打滚) . This isn’t a dirty habit. In fact, the coating of mud keeps them cool in hot weather and protects their skin. Similarly, elephants throw sand on their backs and heads for use as a kind of natural sunblock (防晒霜).
Land animals aren’t alone in having trouble with sunburn. Whales also face this problem. It’s a good thing that blue whales’ cells (细胞) can repair skin damage (皮肤损伤), so they don’t often get skin illness.
________ Pets without fur (绒毛) or those with white fur may also get sunburned. So you should protect your pet outdoors. You can buy sunblock at many pet stores or pet clothing on your pet for outdoor play.

Lauren Singer has produced almost no waste in the past two years, providing that a rubbish-free lifestyle is possible. Lauren studied environmental science at NYU (New York University), and it was during her student years that she began working towards “zero-waste” goals.
Today she has learned to make all of her own everyday eco-friendly products, such as toothpaste, shampoo, kitchen cleaner and so on. She also set up her own company “The Simply Co”, through which she sells her home-made products. Lauren regularly writes about her experiences of a zero-waste life on her blog. Lauren admits(承认) that the past two years haven’t been easy. “I stopped buying packaged products and began bringing my own bags and jars(罐子) to fill with products at the supermarket,” she explained. “I stopped buying new clothes and shopped for only second-hand things.” Even though the journey has been hard, Lauren’s zero-waste life has been well worth the effort. Lauren says that she now saves a lot of money because she is prepared when she goes shopping, and does not buy things that she won’t use at all.
The 23-year-old girl has become a role model to many. She’s giving talks in schools and colleges, and also having more and more interviews about her zero-waste lifestyle on TV and the radio worldwide.
76. When did Lauren begin working towards a “zero-waste” goal?77. What kind of things has Lauren learned to make by herself?
78. How was Lauren’s zero-waste life in the past two years?
79. What did she set up the company “The Simply Co” for?
80. Is Lauren’s lifestyle friendly or harmful to the environment?
In our daily life, most of us don’t want to make mistakes. We dislike mistakes, and sometimes we’re even afraid of them. In most people’s eyes, making mistakes means doing something wrong. But in fact, mistakes are really good in some ways. Here are some of the reasons.
First of all, when we make mistakes, we’re growing. It is clear that we are trying new things. If we never try anything new, how can we improve? How can we develop? The simple answer is “We can’t.” Look around us, almost everything we see in our real world is the result of someone trying something new.
Secondly, when we make mistakes, we are learning. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb(灯泡), but he himself didn’t think so. He said he just learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when we make a mistake, we are much closer to success. Why? Because we will try many times before we succeed. Every time we make a mistake, we’ll have one more chance to succeed next time. There is an old saying, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.”
So, go ahead and face mistakes. And then grow, learn and succeed.
The title: | |
They help us grow. | It is clear that we are |
They help us learn. | Edison learned |
They make us | Every time we make a mistake, we will have one more chance to succeed. |
So go ahead and face mistakes, then we will |
