阅读理解-单选(约310词) | 适中(0.65)
文章大意:本文主要讲述了植物是如何繁殖的。

Our world is full of animals and plants. They make the world lively and colourful. Every living thing needs to reproduce(繁殖)to create more members. How do plants reproduce? They have to spread their seeds to other areas. Plants have developed all kinds of ways to do this.

The simplest way to spread seeds is through gravity(重力). Many seeds are inside of fruit. When fruit gets too heavy, it falls from a tree to the ground. Apples spread this way. When you see this happening, you’ll think of a certain scientist.

Some plants use wind to spread their seeds. Dandelions(蒲公英)are a good example of this. Dandelion seeds are so light that when wind blows, it carries dandelion seeds to new places. Maple(枫树)seeds also use wind. Their seeds are connected with long, thin leaves that look like wings. When the seed falls from the tree, its “wings” help it fly farther from the tree.

Some animals help plants spread their seeds. Sometimes animals pick up the fruit and drop it in another area. That helps move the seed even farther away. Some animals eat the seeds: While the seed is in the animal’s body, it stays whole. When the seed leaves the animal, it’s in a new place. Ants also help spread seeds. Some seeds have a special smell that appeals to ants. The ants bring the seeds back to their home, which of course is underground. They only eat part of the seed. They leave the rest of the seed underground. After that, the seed can start growing.

28     Everybody will have failure. If there is no failure, there will not be chances to show an achievement. The person who fails many times will also have some valuable treasures.

We all know the sun is important. It makes life on our planet possible. But how does the sun do that? It’s the sun’s energy.

Energy from the sun is called solar energy (太阳能). It comes in the form of light or heat. People have used solar energy for thousands of years. The sun’s energy can be used to heat water and even food. If you own a magnifying glass, your parents have probably warned you not to leave it in the sun. Solar energy can actually make the magnifying glass burn objects underneath it causing a fire. This type of energy from the sun is called solar thermal (热的) energy.

We can also turn the sun’s light into electricity. This is done with solar panels (板). Solar panels are made up of a material called silicon (硅). The silicon is heated and formed into very thin wafers (晶片). When the sunlight hits the solar panel, the electrons in the silicon move and flow through wires (电线). Using this technology, we can run a calculator and even power cars in an easy way.

But what happens on cloudy days? The electrons in the silicon will stop moving, which means the electricity can’t flow. But this doesn’t mean that solar energy can only be used on sunny days. People can use the batteries (电池) which are attached to (附着于) solar panels to store the electricity. So the stored electricity can be used to power cars at night or on cloudy days.

Did you know that solar energy is not as expensive as it used to be? In fact, in the last few years.solar panels have become much more affordable for people to use. Since the sun gives off more energy in one second than people have used, imagine what we could do if we used the sun’s energy to power our planet.

We all know the sun is important. Its energy makes life on our planet     29    . Energy from the sun is called solar energy. It comes in the form of light or heat. People have     30     solar energy for thousands of years. The sun’s energy can be used to heat water and even food. This type of energy from the sun is called solar thermal energy. According to a new curriculum standard(课程标准)for labor education in compulsory(强制的;义务的)education made by the government, students in primary and middle schools have at least one course every week on basic household skills such as cooking.

Cooking should be considered as art just like any other activity which requires skills and knowledge. It is often said that students are supposed to learn scientific facts as well as how to prepare meals. The following will explain why cooking should be taught in schools.

1.Cooking is an important skill in life.Schools are supposed to teach knowledge to the students so that they can lead successful independent lives when they are out of school. Also, they can step into the world knowing how to make a living.
2.Cooking helps discover future career. When schools offer cooking lessons, students will show an interest in it and might take cooking as a career. This will give them the chance to perfect their basic skills and be creative in the kitchen.
3.Cooking avoids wasting money.Students used to spend a lot of money on ready﹣made food, while in the real sense they can prepare a nice meal with less cost by buying the required ingredients.

Some students talk about their experience about the cooking classes.

Michael: By learning cooking skills like, I can learn how to take care of myself and live independently. For example, I can cook eggs while my parents are busy with their work. Some﹣times I can prepare meals for them.
Linda: I made fried chicken by myself yesterday.First I mixed together some onions, salt and pepper.Next, I filled the chicken with the mix. Then, I put the chicken in a hot oven and cooked for a few minutes. Finally, I put the chicken on a plate and cut it into thin pieces. How delicious it was!

Cooking skills are much more useful than a lot of what is taught in schools, but it does require some fully equipped(配备齐全的)kitchens.I hope these classes will be good for students and not be seen as window dressing.
