Not long ago, Xuezheng Primary School in Qiantang District, Hangzhou, opened a tree climbing class. It caused much _______ on the Internet. Some showed admiration, while others questioned, “Is this a serious class? _______ do teachers teach students to climb trees?”

Physical education teacher Chen Yang _______ the course and said, “When they first started climbing the trees, the students were more or less afraid. _______ after a few more tries, they got braver. And some students were even able to climb to the _______ point of more than 8 meters.”

In fact, such tree climbing classes are common around the world. Cornell University in the United States, is considered the originator（创始人）of the college tree climbing class. The course was _______ introduced to our country in 2006. In July 2012, Xiamen University took the lead in offering a tree climbing class. In December 2021, Hangzhou Dianzi University _______ opened a tree climbing class.

A livestreaming platform（直播平台）once tried to broadcast（播出）classroom situations live, including students having classes or self-studying. It raised a heated discussion. Here are some students’ opinions.

Student A: I agree with it. When I watched the videos, I saw some comments（评价） from adults like “I admire the way they focus on studying. I want to go back to my school time.” The livestreaming show reminds adults of their wonderful memories of school. It’s a good thing.

Student B: I support the idea. Students’ parents can see what they are doing at school. It will help them know their children better. What’s more, I think if students know they are on a live show, they will behave themselves. Teachers will try to make their classes more interesting.

Student C: In my opinion, it’s bad to show students’ performances in the classroom on the Internet. It’s a violation（侵犯） of privacy. Not only can the parents of these kids watch it on their computers or mobile phones, but also other people in society can watch it. It’s a safety threat（威胁）, because bad people may make use of the videos illegally（非法地）and hurt these students.

Student D: This act doesn’t respect students. Through the live broadcast, people across the country can see the students’ acts without those students even knowing about it. If it is an open class and the school has got the students’ permission, it will be fine. But now it seems that the platform is directly putting the videos on the Internet without permission.

Jin Ruirui was among the first group of college students in her village in Chuxiong, Yunnan province. But instead of working in big cities, she chose to come back to her hometown to set up her own Yi embroidery（彝绣）company. “My mother raised me with the money she made as an embroiderer. I want to carry on her skills and help more embroiderers who are just like my mother—they might not get much education, but they know well about our local culture,” said Jin.

Jin went on field trips to many local villages and found that there were many left-behind children with their parents working far away in big cities. “Think about how good it will be if embroidery can bring them enough money so that they can work at home and stay together with their children,”Jin said, remembering how she started her career.

With the support from the local government and the hard work of people like Jin, Yi embroidery has become a booming industry. They train embroiderers and hire designers to make the embroidery pieces more fashionable. They hold fashion shows promoting（促进）Yi costumes in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai and do business with other provinces and even foreign countries.

During the past 10 years, more than 60,000 Yi women in Chuxiong have taken part in the local Yi embroidery industry. Their average monthly income grew from about 500 yuan to around 3,000 yuan. “Now, even some men have started to work as embroiderers, taking up about 4 percent of the workforce staff, ”Jin added. “We have made our lives better with our traditional culture and skills.”

At the 2023 Shenzhen Marathon, Luo Shujian, a 45-year-old man, ran across the finish line with a unique stroller(婴儿手推车). His son Xiaobai who is thirteen years old sat in the stroller and he has cerebral palsy(脑瘫).

Xiaobai’s mother and sister, through a video call, joined in the celebration of the 56th marathon run by the father and his son since 2015.

Because Xiaobai has cerebral palsy, he spent more than two years learning how to walk. He can’t express any emotion by speaking. But when he is clapping(拍手) and smiling, it means he is very happy. For most of Xiaobai’s lifetime, he can only stay in the recovery room at home. However, Luo did not give up trying to give his son a full and happy life.

Luo read a story of Dick Hoyt and his son on the Internet. Inspired by Dick’s spirit, Luo started undertaking marathon training activities with Xiaobai. Luo works 12 hours every day, and he had no sports experience. So he keeps on getting up at 4 a. m. to jog or cycle before work.

Sitting in the stroller during the marathon is also a big challenge for Xiaobai. “Xiaobai has the same state as runners. He will feel excited in good fitness and feel tired in poor fitness.” said Luo. Xiaobai likes to stare at the outside world while sitting in the stroller during races, clapping and smiling to show his happiness.

Luo and his family will keep running together with Xiaobai in the future, giving Xiaobai the best possible life in the process.
