globe	Inventor: Ellen Fitz Time: 1875 Fitz was a teacher in America when she invented the globe(地球仪) which could show the earth’s movement not only by day and night but also all the year.
dishwasher	Inventor: Josephine Cochran Time: 1886 It was women’s common sense that helped Cochran create a dishwasher(洗碗机) to do the dishes. Cochran’s invention was the first that used water to take the residues(残留物) away.
street sweeper	Inventor: Florence Parpart Time: 1901 Parpart’s street sweeper(清路机) wasn’t the first, but it was much better than earlier ones. Florence made contracts(合约) around the United States to produce her product.
computer software	Inventor: Grace Murray Hopper Time: 1952 As a computer scientist, Hopper also invented a product—computer software(软件) that could change language into computer code(代码), and programming languages.

One day, I stole 50 cents from my father’s room because I wanted to buy a scarf. But my father found that right away.

“Who stole the money?” he asked my brother and me. I was too afraid to talk and my brother said nothing, either. So my father said,“Since nobody wants to admit (承认), you both should be punished!” Suddenly, my younger brother said,“
Dad, I stole it!” He took the punishment for me. That year, my brother was 8 years old.

Several years later, we were accepted into university. But my parents couldn’t pay for both of us. My brother said,“Dad, I don’t want to study any more.” Father became angry,“Even if I have to beg (乞讨) for money, I will send you two to school!”

The next day, my brother left the house, leaving a note on my bed,“Sister, getting into a university is not easy. I will go to find a job and send money to you.” I held the note, and cried. That year, my brother was 17 years old and I was 20 years old.

During my brother’s wedding reception (婚礼) with a farmer girl, someone asked him,“Who is the person you respect (尊敬) and love most?”

Without thinking twice, he answered,“My sister. When we were in primary school, one day, I lost one of my gloves. My sister gave hers to me. When we got home, her hands were shaking because of the cold weather. From that day on, I promised that as long as I lived, I would always take good care of her.”

All guests turned to me. And then, tears (眼泪) were running down my face again.

The International Day of Mathematics (数学), held every year on March 14, is a worldwide celebration in which all countries join. Do you know that March 14 has been already celebrated in many countries as Pi Day (圆周率日)? Yes, it is because this date is written as 3/14, and “Pi” in mathematics is about 3.14. So, this day is all about mathematics!

The International Day of Mathematics is an international day that celebrates mathematics. It is held around the world to educate people about the important role of mathematics in science and technology, improve the quality (质量) of life, give women and girls more control over their own lives, and help with more and more development. This was created just a couple of years ago.

As the International Day of Mathematics, March 14, was passed in November 2019. Later, the world celebrated its first International Day of Mathematics on March 14, 2020, with the theme (主题) “Mathematics Is Everywhere”.

The International Day of Mathematics is to improve understanding among the general public of the importance of mathematics in education, and raise awareness of the role of math in modern society, science, and disaster (灾难) management and more, which helps people know math better and better.

Each year, there is a new theme for the celebration of the International Day of Mathematics. In 2021, the theme for this day was “Mathematics for a Better World”.

Mathematics is an interesting subject, and everyone needs to get used to it. So, let’s learn math, enjoy math, and celebrate math with all our hearts and brains!

Hainan Island will no longer sell fuel-driven cars（燃油汽车）by 2030. Instead, new energy vehicles（能源汽车）—NEVs will be encouraged. The island’s government made the plan in August, 2022, to produce less pollution and develop new energy across the island. This plan makes Hainan the first place in China to make such a try. The island has rich renewable energies. These include wind, solar power（太阳能）and so on.

The island’s natural conditions also make it a great place to use NEVs. Most of these cars on the market now run on batteries（电池）. In winter, low temperatures make the batteries last for fewer hours than usual. This, however, won’t be a big problem because of the warm weather all the year. Besides, the island isn’t big. Thanks to the small area, NEV owners won’t have to worry about their batteries, either.

All of these conditions make it possible for Hainan to carry out its plan. As the change of weather conditions continues to make a worse and worse influence on our world, more places need to have a try.
