Shenzhou-14’s return capsule (太空舱) touched down successfully at the Dongfeng landing site in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (内蒙古自治区) at 8: 09 p.m. on 4th December, 2022. Three Chinese     1     Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe on board the Shenzhou-14 manned spaceship returned to Earth safely.

The three astronauts finished many tasks during their staying in space,     2     giving a science lecture (演讲) to Chinese students and communicated with them. During the third lesson of “Tiangong Class”, they showed some     3     things inside the space station, for example, showing the change of surface tension (张力) in space. They also invited students to carry out several experiments on the ground. After the students listened to the class, they knew the differences     4     the space and Earth, and they could also discover the fun from such experiences.

They let the students learn the knowledge of manned space flights. And they also     5     young people to develop an interest in science.

The Shenzhou-14 astronauts helped realize many “firsts” in China’s space history. They are the     6     team to enter the space station’s two lab modules (模块). They set an exciting record of making three spacewalks on a flight task.

A Chinese worker, who cared for the injured and dealt with a dangerous situation and then got lost in the mountains, has been saved 17 days later.

Gan Yu, a worker at Sichuan’s Wandong hydropower plant（水力发电站）, was on duty with his co-worker, Luo Yong, on Sept.5 when the 6.8-level quake hit southwestern Sichuan Province. Luo prevented flooding by pouring water from the dam before he joined Gan Yu, who stayed behind to give first aid to injured co-workers. Then the pair ran to the plant and turned off the generator（发电机）. They tried to leave the far-away power station, walking around for 20 kilometers. But Gan, who has very poor eyesight, had lost his glasses during the quake and found it difficult to walk in the mountains. They finally decided that Gan should stayput while Luo went looking for help. Luo left Gan some wild fruit and bamboo shoots to eat. Luo was found on Sept.8, but by the time Gan’s pieces of clothing and footprints were discovered on Sept.11, he had disappeared.

Luckily, the story didn’t end here. On Sept.19, a local farmer, Ni Taigao, returned to his village at the foot of the mountain where the power plant is, and heard about the news of looking for Gan. The villager put his local knowledge to use and joined the search. During hours of trekking（艰苦跋涉）, he heard Gan’s weak cries and soon noticed him. There are no superheroes in this story, but ordinary people like the three turned into heroes.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Friends are important to us. Friends help us get through hard times. Friends also influence us a lot. Let’s enjoy two poems about friendship.

Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off. US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend’s visit when he was working. Li made a comparison. His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing should get in the way of spending time with friends. The language is simple but sincere.

Technology in agriculture

A fruit-picking robot attracted visitors’ attention. With the help of different sensors(传感器) and an AI system, the robot can collect fruit according to its ripeness(成熟度), quality and size. The robot first finds the fruit and then uses sensors to decide whether it is ripe and if it is, it will pick the fruit softly with a robotic arm. Maybe more robotic technology will be used in agriculture in the future, including robots for daily work like finding out wild plants, killing harmful insects on the farm.

Robots fighting COVID-19

Medical staff doing tests often find their work tiring. A nucleic acid(核酸检测) test robot developed by Tsinghua University. It looks like a selling machine, but the robot can collect samples(样本) from throats and process them, as well as produce and upload the results within 45 minutes. The whole process will not require any workers.

Inventions of the youth

Some students from Beijing also showed their robots there. Although they are young, they brought wonderful inventions and ideas. For example, Wang Zirun, a junior student at the school, designed a 3D parking lot. His invention works like a sky wheel with six parking places. When cars need to be picked up, the machine works slowly, placing the car on the ground.
