It was about 11:00 a. m. on 5th April, 2022, not far from a bridge in Mianzhu, Sichuan. Suddenly a white car sped up, ran into a guard rail（护栏）, and ________ up in the river below. Soon there was a crowd. Many of them didn’t even know how the ________ happened.

At the critical（危急的）moment, Wang Minghong, ________ to the guard rail as fast as possible and jumped into the river.

“I was with my wife, and we were on our way home,” said Wang, “All of a sudden, I heard a great ________ and saw a car fall into the river. And there were people in it. I knew I had to try to ________ them.”

“We’ve been waiting for you!” Mrs. Blackstone, my new fifth grade teacher said loudly to me. Over the next few days, Mrs. Blackstone made it her job to help me make more friends in class.

One spring afternoon, Mrs. Blackstone asked me to stay after class.

“I’d like to speak with you, Amanda.”

My mind raced. Had I made a bad grade? Had I hurt someone’s feelings?

“Are you enjoying your new school?” She sat comfortably behind her desk.

“I want to tell you something, between you and me, not to be shared with anyone else.” With a gentle smile, she continued, “I see something special in you. The way you communicate with others, the kindness you show — I think you have great potential（潜能）to be someone very important ”

I listened carefully to every word.

“I’ve been a teacher for over twenty-five years; I can see it. But you must believe in yourself. Remember that and you’ll go far.”

She then hugged me and said, “See you tomorrow.”

Her sweet voice was music to my ears that day. I walked out of her class, not looking down at my Mary Jane shoes, but looking straight ahead with my head high.

In order to stress the importance of labor（劳动）education among students of different ages, the Communist Party of China Central Committee recently released（发布）a guideline（指导方针）.

The guideline calls for students to respect labor work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.

The government has been trying to stress the importance of labor education. But this has been overlooked（忽略）in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard and aren’t interested in doing so.

According to a study of nearly 3, 000 students that was done by China Evening News, only 22% of students help with everyday chores around the house. Schools and families play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard, the guideline says.

Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit classes every week, according to the guideline. School can also hold activities to give students real-world work experience. For example, schools can teach children how to plant trees on Tree-Planting Day.

As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should grasp one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

Months ago, a new kind of transportation came out. A company called Sky Drive gave a demonstration（示范）of its new flying, the SD-03. The small car flew around for four minutes, staying about three to six feet off the ground. The SD-03 is powered by batteries（电池）and has eight motors（发动机）.

What made this test flight special was that a pilot was on board. Tomohiro Fukuzawa, who leads Sky Drive, said, “Of the world’s more than 100 flying car projects, only a few of them have succeeded with a person on board.”

Many companies around the world are working to develop flying cars. Some governments, including Japan’s, agree with the idea, hoping that in the future flying cars will be useful for short trips like taxi rides in cities. Flying cars could also save time and reach places that can’t be reached by roads. Nothing is easy! There are also many challenges in the way. Controlling a flying car is so difficult that most people won’t be able to do it. Some people believe flying cars will reduce traffic jams. However, new systems will be needed to help control traffic in the air. With lots of cars flying around, the new systems may be too difficult for humans to manage. Also, flying cars will be very expensive.

Mr. Fukuzawa wants the SD-03 to be able to fly two passengers on trips of up to three miles by 2023. He hopes people will be able to fly anywhere inside Tokyo in just ten minutes by 2050.
