Look around when you’re on the subway. What is the most popular time-killing activity? Your answer may be playing on your smart phone. But in other countries, many people enjoy reading.

In many foreign countries, people read at any time. Even backpackers (背包客) enjoy reading books when they are on a break at the beach or relaxing from a trip. Reading books builds a bridge between our lives and the unknown world.
Many hotels abroad also offer book exchanges for visitors. Simply drop off your finished books and take different books that others left behind.
In most US middle schools, teachers develop students’ reading habits by giving them a reading list every few weeks. Some schools even hold the reading party for students to share their opinions.
Good reading habits can lead you to a lifelong love of books. In order to encourage people to read more, China is planning to set laws for reading. Although this has both good and bad sides, it can be seen as a way to develop one’s reading habits. The following advice may be helpful:
·Read in short periods. 10 minutes on the way to and from school, 10 minutes waiting for friends, 15 minutes before sleep.

One day, a student asked his teacher, “What is greed? ” The teacher didn’t answer his question directly, but asked the student to walk through the chocolate factory next to their school and pick out the biggest chocolate bar he could find. But there was a rule: as he passed through the factory, he could not turn back.
The student went to the chocolate factory. As he walked, he saw a large chocolate bar. He liked it, but thought he might be able to find an even bigger one if he kept going. He went on and saw another chocolate bar. This one was a little bigger. But again, he thought he could find an even bigger one if he kept going. As he neared the end of the factory, he saw fewer chocolate bars and none of them were as large as the earlier ones. He started to feel sad about his missing the largest chocolate bar.
Finally, he gave up. He went back to his teacher empty-handed and explained (解释) what had happened.
The teacher told him, “You liked the first chocolate bar, but you kept looking for a bigger one. And later, you realized that you had given up the best chocolate bar because you thought you could do better. That is called greed.”
Sometimes in our life, we let go of good things easily because we think we can find something even better.

Beau Jessup is just like other British teenagers except for one thing- she’s making hundreds of thousands of dollars and supporting her studies at college by naming Chinese babies. The 19-year-old girl has made a name for herself as the CEO of Special Name, a website providing Chinese parents with suitable English names for their babies.
Jessup got the idea of starting the business in 2015 when she was just 15. At that time, she was travelling with her father in China when a Chinese woman in her father’s company asked for help in naming her 3-year-old daughter. Jessup was surprised to find naming babies seemed like a really important thing to do.
With the help of her father and a web developer, Jessup built the Chinese-language website with a database (数据库) of more than 4,000 names, listing five characteristics that she felt best described the name.
The website works by asking users to choose 5 characteristics from a list of 12 that they would most like their child to have, such as friendly and brave. Then a computer program picks three names that match the five characteristics and the sex of the baby. Next, users are encouraged to share the three suggestions with their friends and family to decide on their favourite. All these take just three minutes.
“I still update (更新) the database each month, but the website runs by itself, allowing me to work full-time on my studies at College,” said Jessup.

High school students who take music classes get better grades on Maths, Science and English exams than their non-musical classmates, according to a new study. The students who learnt to play a musical instrument (乐器) in primary school and continued playing in high school not only got better grades, but were about one school year ahead of their non-musical classmates.
Scientists studied over 112, 000 students who finished all the 12-grade schoolwork from 2012 to 2015. Students who had at least one instrumental music class were seen as students taking music classes.
