As we know, the Shenzhou 14 spaceship with three astronauts returned successfully on December 4th, 2022. Can you imagine astronauts’ everyday life in the space? Spacemen also need to eat, sleep, exercise and relax. They do the same things as us, but they do them differently.
On the earth, we put food on a plate and water in a glass. Gravity(重力) holds the food down and keeps the water in the glass. But there is almost no gravity in space, so food can float(漂浮) away, and astronauts must eat and drink carefully.
Sleeping is very different in space. Some astronauts like to float in the air, but most like to be in a sleeping bag. They tie the bag to a wall so that they won’ t float away at night.
Exercise is very important in space. On the earth, your legs carry your body, but in space, astronauts float. So they do not use their legs often. This is very bad for their legs, so they must exercise for thirty minutes every day.
After a day’s work astronauts relax. They may listen to music, read, watch films, play games, or talk to their friends and families on the radio. Sometimes they just enjoy floating in the air.

Anger is a kind of feeling. Many things can make you angry. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, when a friend borrows your favorite thing and then breaks it, you may get really angry.
Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry. For example, you breathe faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something or hit(打) someone, but sometimes, you hide(隐藏) your anger. For example, you may hide it in your heart. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache or your stomach may hurt.
In fact, it’s not good to hide your anger, and it’s normal for you to get angry sometimes. But anger must be let out in the right way, without hurting others or yourself.
When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. It’s helpful to talk about your anger with an adult, such as parents, a teacher, etc. When you talk about anger, those bad feelings can start to go away. Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry: talk to a good friend; count from 1 to 100; give someone a hug(拥抱); go for a bike ride; think about good things, etc.
Remember that how you act when you are angry can make everything better or worse. Don’t let your anger control you.

One day a man found a cocoon(茧) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly. Suddenly a small opening appeared, and the butterfly made its great effort to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly could come out easily. But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become larger and be able to fly. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling(爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.
The man was in his kindness, but he did not understand the nature rules. Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid(流体) from its body must be forced into its wings, and then it would be ready for flying. It must have a hard struggle(拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any difficulties, it would make us fail. We would not be as strong as we could have been; we could never fly.
8. What was the butterfly doing at the beginning of the story?A.It was trying to make a cocoon for itself. |
B.It was struggling to get out of its cocoon. |
C.It was flying among the trees in the forest. |
D.It was crawling around quietly on the ground. |
A.to take the butterfly home |
B.to help the butterfly come out easily |
C.to kill the butterfly |
D.to stop the butterfly growing bigger |
A.Patient but cruel. | B.Careful and wise. | C.Kind but unwise. | D.Brave and funny. |
A.Struggles are sometimes necessary in our life. |
B.Nothing is difficult if we put our heart into it. |
C.Every good deed will come back with good result. |
D.The greatest happiness in the world is to help others. |
If you live in the United States, according to the law you can’t have a full-time job until you’re 16 years old. At the age of 14 or 15, you can do part-time jobs after school or on weekends. During summer, you can work 40 hours each week if you have a part-time job. Kids who are between the ages of 10 and 13 can do certain types of farm jobs, with their parent’s permission.
Does all that mean that if you’re younger than 14, you can’t earn(挣) any money of your own? Of course not! Here are some teenagers’ ideas.
Some teenagers make money through hard work. “I’m too young to get a full-time job. I don’t have enough time to work. That’s why I can only babysit or do other odd jobs for the community,” says Justin, an eleven-year-old boy. Jenny is eleven years old, too. She tells us that she makes some pocket money by cleaning up yards for others.
Some of teenagers are using their creativity to make money! Lena is 13 years old. She makes money by knitting(编织) dog sweaters and selling them to her neighbors. Ann is one year younger than Lena. She says, “When I started taking art classes and showing my works to people, they said they would pay me to draw pictures for them.” Jasmine is 13 years old. She even writes articles and book reviews(评论) for different magazines!
