A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. The son was happy when he saw the sky ________ colorful kites. He wanted to fly a kite, too. The father then bought a kite for his son.

The son started to fly the kite. Soon, his kite was high up in the sky. After a while, the son said, “Father, it seems that the string (线) is ________ the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, it will be ________ and fly even higher. Can we cut it?” The father agreed. The kite started to go higher. This made the little boy ________.

We may sometimes feel like there are certain things ________ are holding us back and gus from growing. But in fact, these might be the things supporting us the most.

This is a true story that happened in my childhood. One day, I was trying to catch a butterfly in a garden. I tried many times to catch it but couldn’t succeed.

Just then, a man came and asked me, “Why are you trying to catch this butterfly?” I said, “I like it.” Hearing this, he held my arm hard. “You’re hurting me.” I said with tears in my eyes. “So you don’t feel good.” He said with a bad smile and held my arm more tightly（更紧的）“Why are you doing this ?!” I said and started crying. “I want you to feel the pain（疼痛）you are trying to put on the butterfly.” He said. If you did catch the butterfly, you would hurt it as I did hurt you. So don’t do this and let it go.”

He smiled at me and went away. So I didn’t catch the butterfly any more.

Since then, whenever I want to do something bad or I don’t want to help a person in need, I think, “What if it happens to me?” Then I stop all my bad actions and do the right things.

The word “day” has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using “day” to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using “day” to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Because the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night.

At the equator（赤道）, day and night are sometimes the same long. They arc each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 o’clock in the morning and sets at 6 o’clock in the evening. For six months the North Pole（北极）is tilted（倾斜的）towards the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days.
