When I was a little boy, I used to be very quiet and didn’t have any friend. At that time, my parents were very ________ with their work. I lived with my grandparents in another city. I always thought that ________ cared about me. Everything changed when I was thirteen years old. A boy gave me a special ________, a smile. It was my ________ year in the middle school. Everything there was new to me. No one knew who I was. I didn’t know them, either. I was too shy to ________ anyone. Of course I was very lonely. There are many classical (古典的) cultures in China. All of them have a very long history. Here we introduce four of them.

	Chinese Folk Music Chinese folk music has a long history. It is connected with Chinese ancient stories. One of the classics, Shijing, includes some folk songs in 15 different areas from the West Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period. Traditional Chinese musical instruments include guqin, guzheng, pipa, erhu, xiao and so on.
	Chinese Painting Chinese painting is one of the oldest traditional painting forms in the world. Most of the Chinese paintings in ancient China were done on paper or silk. Traditional Chinese painting includes mountains and water, figures (人物), flowers and birds. The paintings show different features during the different historical periods.
	Weiqi Weiqi, called yi in ancient China, is a smart board game between two players with a history of over 3, 000 years. The game can be treated as the beginning of all ancient chess games.
	Chinese Handwriting Chinese handwriting is a special art to Asian Cultures. Brush handwriting is much loved around the world. Wang Xizhi is very famous for his handwriting. He made a great difference to the development of Chinese handwriting.

Jean Thompson stood in front of her fifth-grade class on the very first day of school. She told the children a lie. Like most teachers, she said that she loved them all the same.

But that was impossible, because in the front of row, there was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs Thompson noticed that he didn’t play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he needed a bath.

And Teddy might be unpleasant. Mrs Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a red pen, putting a big “F” at the top of his papers. However ,when she reviewed his file(档案), she felt surprised.

Teddy’s first-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is a bright child with a ready laugh. He does his homework neatly and has good manners... he is a joy to be around.”

His second-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy is an excellent student, well liked by his classmates, but he is troubled because his mother has a serious illness.”

His third-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy has been hard hit by his mother’s death. His home life will soon affect(影响) him if some steps aren’t taken.”

Teddy’s fourth-grade teacher wrote, “Teddy doesn’t show much interest in school. He doesn’t have many friends and sometimes sleeps in class.”

Now Mrs Thompson was ashamed(惭愧的) of herself and felt worse when her students brought her Christmas presents. Teddy’s present, however, was half a bottle of perfume (香水). “Mm, lovely perfume!”said Mrs Thompson.

Alone together, after school, Teddy told Mrs Thompson, “Today you smelled just like my mom used to...” His teacher cried all night. From that day, she stopped teaching reading and writing, but began to teach children, and she paid particular attention to children like Teddy.

For most students, the time before exams is very stressful and difficult.     61     If exams really make you anxious or worried, you don’t need to hide your feelings. Talk to someone about it.

How to get through an important test? Here is some advice.

Ask a teacher about how to review the lessons and improve testing skills.     62     If your mind is tired, it will not work well.

Get enough sleep and eat healthy food. Have a positive attitude: Don’t be afraid of exams.

Stop thinking about the future and failure.

If you feel anxious, you can talk to someone about your feelings.     63     Some stress before exams makes you work hard for them.

If it upsets you to talk to your friends about the exam when it finished, don’t do it! In fact, do not even think about the exam you have finished.     64    

If you study in the evening, you’d better not go straight to bed. Your mind will still be “going round and round”—thinking too much.     65     Do something that makes you relaxed and think about other things.

A young man woke up one morning under a bridge and check all his money in his pocket—     66     (little) than five dollars. He bought food with all his money. Just then     67     old man and two children came along. They asked him     68     (help) them with food as they had nothing for almost a couple of days.

He gave them all the food. The old man and children     69     (thank) the young man and wanted to give     70     (he) a dirty old coin.The young man said,”You need this coin more than I do—just keep it.” But the old man insisted(坚持 ) on giving it to the young man. The young man accepted it at last. And then they sat down to eat.

With no money, no job and no food, the young man went back under the bridge. He saw an old newspaper on the ground while he     71     (lie）on the ground. He picked it up and saw an ad inviting people with old coins to come to a store. He decided to go there     72     the coin.

When the shopkeeper saw the dirty old coin, he cried     73     (loud).

This old coin was worth at least 67,000 dollars. The young man sold the coin for money. He returned quickly. He wanted to share the money with the old man and children,     74     he found they had gone.
