I walked into the Huddle House Restaurant in Brunswick, Georgia and sat down at the table. I picked up the menu and was to order something for breakfast.

“Excuse me,”

I looked up and _______ a nice-looking woman standing before me.

“Is your name Roger?” _______ asked.

“Yes,” I answered, feeling rather surprised as I had never seen her before.

“My name’s Barbara and my _______ is Tony,” She said, pointing to a middle-aged man sitting alone at the table by the window. He was _______ and weak.

You may know about “junk food” like French Fries. But do you know about “junk sleep”?

Recently, a British survey found that electronic products (电子产品) in teenagers’ bedrooms are affecting (影响) their sleep.

The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours of sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours.

Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.

“This is very worrying,” said Dr.Chris Idzikowski, a British expert (专家). “We call it ‘junk sleep’.   It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is bad, too. If you don’t get good rest, you don’t perform well in school the next day.”

The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls between 13 and 16 feeling the worst. Nearly all the teenagers have a phone, MP5 or TV in their bedroom. And many of them have all three.

One day, my father and I were in line to buy tickets for the circus (马戏表演). And a family was standing in front of us.

The family had eight children. Their clothes were not expensive but clean. The children talked about the clowns (小丑), elephants, monkeys and other things excitedly. It was their first time to go to the circus.

The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly answered, “I want eight children’s tickets and two adults’ tickets, so I can take my family to the circus.”

The ticket lady said the price. The man’s wife lowered her head and there was no smile on the man’s face. He quietly asked, “How much did you say?”

The ticket lady said the price again. The man didn’t have enough money. How could he tell his eight kids the bad news? My dad put his hand into his pocket and pulled out a $20 bill and dropped (掉下) it on the ground. (In fact, we were not rich!) Then my dad said, “Excuse me, sir, this dropped out of your pocket.”

The man knew what was going on. He looked into my dad’s eyes, held my dad’s hand in his, and took the $20 bill. “Thank you, sir, thank you. This really means a lot to me and my family.”

My father and I went back home. We didn’t go to see the circus that night, but we didn’t care.

Mr. King was the manager (经理) of a hotel. One weekend all the hotels in the city were full because there was an important meeting. On Friday night, three men came into the hotel and asked for rooms. Mr. King said there were no rooms ready because of the meeting. The men were unhappy.

Mr. King wanted to help them. He remembered that Room 418, a very small room, was empty. He asked them if they would share a room. The three men said they would. Mr. King said the room would be thirty dollars: ten for each one. Each man gave him the money and then went up to the room.

Mr. King soon began to feel sorry. “Thirty dollars is a lot to ask as price for that small room,” he thought. He called his assistant(服务员) over and said, “Here is five dollars. Take it to the men in Room 418. I asked too much for their room. ”

 The assistant took the money. While he was on the way there, he started to think, “How can three men divide（分）five dollars? I’ll give them each only one dollar and keep the two dollars for myself. The men will be happy to get something back, and Mr. King will never know. ” So the assistant returned one dollar to each man.

 Each man had at first paid ten dollars. After the assistant returned them one dollar each, each had paid nine. There were three men, $ 9 ×3 = $ 27. The assistant kept $ 2. $ 27 + $ 2 = $ 29. Where is the missing dollar?
