Fourteen-year-old Wang Fa won the championship in a recent tennis competition held in Guangzhou. But what has attracted more attention is the way he carries his rackets (球拍)—using a bamboo pack basket. Many netizens have said that the basket is not just carrying his rackets, but also his tennis dream. Wang is from Cangyuan, Yunnan. Growing up in a remote village, he knew nothing about tennis until he was 8, when his talent was discovered by Zhang Xiaohong, a tennis coach.

Zhang started the wild Elephant Tennis Club in Yunnan. In 2016, he began a special program to train children from rural areas to take part in competitive sports. He hoped it could help them have more chances for their future life.

In the past, tennis was not known by too many Chinese people. The success story of Li Na made it really popular. But for people in rural areas, it’s still something far away from them. When there was a chance to play tennis, Wang Fa expressed his willingness (乐意) to follow Zhang to Kunming for training. Zhang chose 10 children from the county that time.

“Before I started to learn tennis, I had just stayed in my home town and knew little about the outside world. Now I’ve travelled to many different parts of the country,” said Wang. “I’ll keep working hard. I hope I can be a member of the national team in the future and compete in global tournaments.”

I think that a great friend is a great artist who can change my feeling about life greatly. When I talk about the person who influenced me most, I must think of my best friend quickly.

When I was in my university, one of my classmates sat beside me. His name is Wang Tao. He is my unforgettable friend in my life. He is good at study and handsome. Everyone knows that he is a genius (天才) of my university.

He is kind hearted and is always ready to help others. But he doesn’t like others to praise him, because he think what he did is common. There is an old saying: A friend in need is a friend indeed. Wang Tao sets a good example in many parts in my life.

I remembered that my math was mediocre at that time, but he was excellent in solving math questions. He often received high scores. Of course, I wished I could reach at his level. Since we talked all day long, he was patient and polite to answer my math questions. Slowly, I made great progress in math. I passed the exam finally. Then we became friends naturally. And now, I still remember his strong will to study.

To me, Wang Tao is a very good friend. I learned so many advantages from him, and I changed more and more excellently.

We separated three months ago. Now I miss him very much, and I hoped that our friendship will continue to be just as strong after we graduate.

Most parents do that. Do they have to know everything? They should give us more freedom. Young people further complain that their parents do not respect them. Yes, it is true that your parents sometimes treat you like a little child. But remember that not too long ago you were really a child. Your parents still remember those childish mistakes that you used to make. They want to protect you though you do not want them to do so.

So, if you want to get more freedom, please try to understand your parents and do not lie to them. Try a more friendly way. If you want them to allow you to stay out late, don't just say, “All the other kids can stay out late.” Tell them as much as you can about what you want to do and where you'll be and why it's important for you to stay out late. Then they might just say “yes”.
