On Sept 2, rock singer Wu Bai from Taiwan held a concert in Shanghai. As soon as the first song started, the audience (观众) couldn’t wait to start singing. It was like a huge KTV party! And the audience sang with him all night long. That may be exciting or relaxing for people. But what exactly do people go to concerts for?
Amazing atmosphere
Chu Songzhu, a 32-year-old blogger (博主), went to Wu Bai’s concert in Shanghai. For him, the best part of a concert is its atmosphere and how it lets people bring out their true feelings. “Wu directed the audience to create human waves (人浪). We were also divided into different groups for singing. I’m not a good singer, but in that amazing atmosphere, I found myself joining in and shouting along, it was so cool!” Chu told Teens.
Visual and audio feast
For 19-year-old Chen Shulin, she enjoys the visual and audio feast that concerts can give. This June, she went to rock star Wang Feng’s concert in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. The lights changed with the music. When it came to the song Blooming Life (《怒放的生命》), the screen showed moving lines with flashing lights to help create a rhythmic (有节奏的) feeling. The sound system was also loud, which made her heart race.
Showing support
For fans, going to a concert is a way to show support for their idols. On Sept 10, singer Hua Chenyu held the 2023 Mars Concert at the Bird’s Nest stadium to celebrate his 10-year musical journey. A long-time fan of Hua, Teresa Cui, 25, traveled from Shanghai to Beijing to support her idol. The term “Mars” is a special connection between Hua and his fans. So Cui dressed as a “Martian”, wearing red clothes and jewelry (首饰).

Tramper could feel the stony road through the holes in his shoes. A newspaper blew by. He picked it up and sat down to cover the holes in his shoes with the paper.
A weak old lady stared at him. “You think you have shoe troubles?” she said. “The king has 12 girls and all of them have holes in their slippers?”
The old lady’s feet were bare (光脚的), cut and purple from the cold. Tramper felt sorry for her, so he gave her his shoes. To thank him, she gave Tramper her dirty cloak (斗篷) . As she walked away down the road, she called: “Stay awake. Drink no drop. Taste no cup.”
“A strange way to say goodbye,” thought Tramper.
It rained. Tramper put on the cloak and tried to read what was left of the wet newspaper. As it fell apart in his hands he read:

WANTED: Answer to the Mystery of the Worn Slippers.

①Qinqiang Opera is one of the carliest forms of opera in China. It started from the ancient folk songs and dances of the Han people in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. According to historical records, the local opera dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty. Qinqiang Opera shows the daily life and feelings of ancient Chinese people. In 2006, Qinqiang Opera was added to national intangible heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录).
②Hou Yan, 48, the master of Qinqiang Opera started learning it from her mother when she was 4 years old. Training in the basic skills of Qinqiang Opera is very challenging. ③The other ways in which Robo Coach differs from human driving coaches are even more amusing, though. Robo Coach will call you as “mommy” or “daddy”.
④Besides voice, the system uses a dashboard (仪表盘) screen and a smart rearview mirror (后视镜) to communicate with the learner. Robo Coach uses sensors (传感器) to stop if the car runs into something or increase speed suddenly for no reason, similar to how self-driving cars work.
⑤The Robo Coach has more than 40 different sensors on the car to notice people, other cars and roads. _______ And to make faster decision making, the car is also provided with radar systems (雷达系统) .
⑥The system isn’t just keeping new drivers from meeting accidents. It also collects information on the learner’s driving behavior and even body position. It studies these driving habits in real time to see if the learner is too traditional or easy to be angry during practice and changes its teaching style. By recording all the problems a learner runs into during lessons, the system aims to help the new driver correct past mistakes and prevent new ones.
⑦The Robo Coach is now being used in five driving instruction centers owned by Yi Jia Jia’s parent company as well as 22 other driving schools across China.
