At my summer camp, campers got a badge (奖章) for each activity we learned. We could win a swimming badge, a climbing badge, a singing badge and a hiking (远足) badge. I got them all but the hiking badge. That was my biggest problem.
I had lots of difficulties in hiking. My unhappiest time was when I fell over. I just couldn’t find any fun in hiking.
My teacher, Sarah, talked to me alone one day. “We’re going to get you to love hiking,” she told me. “You need to learn to enjoy nature (大自然).” So Sarah and I hiked together. As we walked, she pointed out things that I had never seen carefully before. There were many pretty things to see, such as flowers and hills. I heard sounds of birds singing and the river running. I started to become interested, but Sarah told me to go back to camp.
“What?” I didn’t know it was so late that it was time to go back. Only then did I notice that the sun was setting and it was getting dark. But Sarah only smiled. I slowly went back the way we had come, because I wanted to see more beautiful things. Before I knew it, I had arrived at the camp. I may never be the best hiker, but I won my hiking badge. I can find beautiful things in nature everywhere. I really know how to enjoy it.

On Oct 23, Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang got the title (头衔) of the Best Male Swimmer of the Year 2023. He won the award (奖励) just one day after he won the Swimming World Cup Overall Male Award.
People call Qin the “King of Breaststroke (蛙泳)” for his breaststroke achievements (成就) in 2023. He won all 23 gold medals (金牌) in breaststroke in the big competitions he took part in. At the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, the 24-year-old player became the first swimmer in history to win all three breaststroke golds at the event.
Breaststroke is not easy. It’s harder to swim fast because all the strokes (划水) in breaststroke happen under the water. This makes the water push back on the swimmer more, and it takes a lot of skills to swim well. “Even a small change in how you move your hands can make you swim faster or slower,” Qin said to Jimu News. “Some people say I’m fast because I save energy (能量) by using fewer strokes. When others might take one and a half strokes, I only need one to swim as far as they do.”
Even though Qin has won many awards, he doesn’t want people to call him the “King of Breaststroke”. He is a modest person. “Just call me a breaststroke swimmer,” Qin said after winning the men’s 50m breaststroke at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

D.The best kind of swimming—Breaststroke. |
When you go to the park, you might notice many older people listening to audiobooks (有声书) instead of reading paper books. Audiobooks become quite popular these days. Why are more and more people choosing audiobooks? Is listening to an audiobook just as useful as reading a book?
Reading needs us to pay all our attention to the words in a book, and we also need to find time and a place to sit down and read. However, you can listen to audiobooks anytime and anywhere you like, and it lets your eyes have a rest, too.
But the big question is, do we get knowledge (知识) from audiobooks as effectively (有效地) as we do from paper books? Researchers did an experiment to find the answer. Volunteers in group one listen to an audiobook, but volunteers in group two read a paper book. It turned out that they remembered the same amount (数量) of information in these two ways.
Another study published in the Journal of Neuroscience further agree to the result above. In the study, researchers scanned (扫描) people’s brains when they listened to and read books. The result showed that listening to audiobooks uses almost the same parts of the brain as reading does.
However, some people still believe that they learn better from reading paper books. One reason might be that when we listen to audiobooks, we are often doing other things at the same time. “If you’re trying to learn when doing two things, you’re not going to learn well, ” Daniel Willingham, a professor of psychology (心理学) at the University of Virginia, told The New York Times.
48. The audiobook users are freer in ________than paper book users.A.age and place | B.price and time |

D.Because they want to protect their ears. |
A. | B. | C. | D. |
