You may think gymnastics is only for players in their teens and twenties. But Oksana Chusovitina has broken the unwritten rule of the sport. The 48-year-old woman made her return to the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. This is her fifth time to take part in the Asian Games. Also she is the only woman who has competed in eight Olympics. Chusovitina was born in Uzbekistan in 1975. At the age of 17, she attended her first Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. She won a gold medal in the team event.
In 1999, she gave birth to her first son, Alisher. She thought the Sydney 2000 Games were meant to be the last one for her. But it was not to be. In 2002, the family moved to Germany. In 2003, she returned to international competitions to raise money for her son. Luckily, both he comeback and her son’s treatment were successful.

But gymnastics was in her blood (血). “At night, I told everyone I had decided to stop my career. The next morning, I woke up and changed my mind,” she said. At the Tokyo 2020 Games, Chusovitina failed to reach the final event. Though she said once again that she would stop her career, she decided to return very soon.
This year, her return to the Hangzhou Asian Games added another touch of colour to her career. Although she missed a medal, she said she would continue to train and compete for the Olympics in Paris.
“I love gymnastics, and it brings me great joy. I’m just doing what I love.” Chusovitina said, “I can leave at any time. But I must do what I can today, so I won’t regret it tomorrow.”

I’m in trouble. Last week, we had a football match, and we lost. We played well, I think. It was like he wasn’t even on the field!Disappointed by what he did, I said all this to my best friend to let out my anger. But he told everyone else what I’d said. I’m really angry with him. What should I say to him? And should I say something to my teammate?
Reply There is an old American saying, “Loose lips sink ships.” This means that if you speak too much about something, especially to people who you don’t know so well, it’ll cause all kinds of trouble. Maybe now you’re in this situation. 13 likes
Reply I was at the game and you did your best. I think it was awful of your teammate not to try his best. You know, teamwork, is very important. If you play, play it well! But I don’t think it’s OK to talk behind his back because it might hurt his feelings. Maybe there is a better way to solve the problem. 25 likes
Reply In my view, no secret is safe. It’s natural for your friend to tell others about what you’re sharing. This is how we keep close to each other in a group. So, learn the lesson. Next time, keep it to yourself. 10 likes
Reply I understand why you were angry with your teammate. A successful team requires everyone’s effort. But what you did doesn’t actually help. Next time in the same situation, try to communicate with your teammate directly and honestly. Besides, when filled with anger, calm down, and always remember: think first, tell him you’re angry because what he did made the situation worse. 30 likes |
