Do you love holidays but hate the increasing weight (体重) that follows? You are not alone.
Holidays are happy days with pleasure and delicious foods. Many people, however, are worried about the weight that comes along with these delicious foods.
With proper planning, though, it is possible to control your weight. The idea is to enjoy the holidays but not to eat too much. You don’t have to turn away from the food that you enjoy. The following suggestions may be of some help to you.
Do not miss meals. Before you leave home for a feast, have small, low-fat snacks. This may help you from getting too excited before delicious food. Begin with clear soup and fruit or vegetables. A large glass of water before you eat may help you feel full. Use a small plate. A large plate will encourage you to have more than enough.
Better not have high-fat food. Dishes that look oily or creamy have much fat in them.
Choose lean meat (瘦肉). Fill your plate with salad and green vegetables.
If you have a sweet tooth, try mints (薄荷) and fruit. They don’t have fat content as cream and chocolate.

Yesterday, Danny ate lunch at a restaurant with his family. Late that night, he had food poisoning (中毒). He wanted to know how it happened.
Danny learned about a few reasons for food poisoning.
The first reason is there are bacteria (细菌) in the food. Bacteria live in a lot of food and they live in meat, eggs and seafood most often. If you cook the food in a right way, you can kill the bacteria in it.
Another reason for food poisoning is parasites (寄生虫). They often live in meat, but could sometimes live on vegetables, too. If you don’t cook the food in a right way, these parasites may start living in your body!
The third reason for food poisoning is eating the food with toxins (毒素) in it. Sometimes the food gets toxins naturally, and sometimes the toxins come from insect spray (喷雾杀虫剂). So you must wash the food carefully before you eat or cook it.
The last reason for food poisoning is allergen (过敏原). Some people are just allergic to some food, and they may feel very uncomfortable after eating it.
Danny decided to choose food carefully and cook it in a right way before he ate it in the future. That was important. He never wanted to feel this way again.

Author(作家)Yu Hua was recently featured (被专题报道)in The Paris Review (《巴黎评论》). This is the first time that a Chinese writer showed up in the famous literary magazine’s “Writer’s Interview section” (文学杂志的“作家访谈”栏目).
Born in 1960, Yu is among the greatest modern Chinese writers. His novels have a cold style. But they often discuss deep, realistic (现实) themes such as the meaning of life and death.
His writings show true village life and the troubles of normal people. But his characters never lose hope or their love for life. For example, To Live(《活着》)is set against a background of social changes and describes the endless difficulties facing Xu Fugui, who tries to live on anyway.
Although Yu’s stories often carry a tragic tone(悲剧氛围), he surprises readers with his sense of humor(幽默感)in real life. When he was asked why he went from being a doctor to a writer, he said that his dream as a young man was to find a job where he would never be disturbed (打扰)by an alarm clock.
This contrast(反差)has made Yu popular among young readers. “Yu is in touch with today’s popular culture. He knew he was called a ‘scruffy little dog(潦草小狗)’ because of his careless appearance and was happy about it. He saw it as a way for young people to understands a writer,” said Jiang Xinwei, a 16-year-old high school student from Jilin and a fan of Yu.
