Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel (争吵). All believed that they were the most important.
Green said, “I am the sign of life and hope. I was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die.”
Blue cut in, “Consider the sea and the sky. The water is the basis of life. The sky gives peace. Without my peace, you would all be nothing.”
Yellow laughed, “The sun, the moon and the stars are yellow. When you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun.”
Orange started, “I am the color of health. When I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so wonderful that no one cares about any of you.”
Red shouted out, “I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood—life’s blood! I am the color of bravery. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon.”
Purple rose up, “I am the color of power. Kings choose me for I am the sign of power and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and follow.”
Finally Indigo (靛蓝色) spoke, “Think of me. I am the color of silence. I stand for thought. You need me for balance and peace.”
Suddenly rain poured down and spoke.
“You foolish colors, fighting among yourselves. Don’t you know that you were each made for a special purpose? Join hands with one another and come to me.” Doing as they were told, the colors united (团结) and joined hands.
The rain continued, “From now on, when it rains, each of you will go across the sky in a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace.” There appeared the rainbow.
