It’s easy to get so busy in your daily life that you hardly notice the wonderful world where you live. Taking time to get to know your own town or city can help you learn about its heritage (遗产) and see its culture in a new way. Now it’s a good time to go exploring with a trusted adult. Here’s how to get started.
Many times, when you live in a place, you never really explore some of the local highlights that a visitor might. Start by asking yourself this question: If I had some friends coming to town who had never been here before, where would I suggest going? Maybe there’s a historic building you can tour, a nice park that you could hike in, or a new ice cream store you’ve been wanting to try.
Do some research online and talk to an adult about what sights are within a close drive. A local museum or zoo might have a new show you haven’t seen since the last time you visited. If you’re an adventurous person, you might head to a high mountain for a hike or try rock climbing.
With an adult’s help, look up walking tours for a whole new way to explore your city. Some cities offer walking tours focused on a theme, like food or local parks. You can also search for free self-guided walking tours in your area. Another choice: Many cities have car tours, which can be a fun way to explore far and wide.
Another way to see where you live with fresh eyes is to go exploring with your camera. Pick a theme for your photos, whether it’s local waterways, or birds and other wildlife in your area. These things make your city stand apart from the others—and at the end of the day, you can look back on all your experience close to home.
19. According to Paragraph 1, why do people spend time getting to know their own town or city?A.Because they hope to taste all the delicious food. |
B.Because they plan to build more fascinating houses. |
C.Because they need to communicate with adults well. |
D.Because they want to learn about its history and culture. |
A.helping others | B.telling jokes | C.making friends | D.taking risks |
A.Considering local food. | B.Travelling by car alone. |
C.Taking photos during the trip. | D.Looking for an experienced guide. |
A.To remind readers to hike in the local park. |
B.To tell readers how important a fun tour is. |
C.To encourage readers to learn about buildings well. |
D.To give readers advice on how to explore their own town. |
Artificial intelligence (AI) is technology that helps computers to think, learn and create in a way similar to humans. The last year has seen a lot of great developments of new AI apps and tools.
ChatGPT and Microsoft CoPilot are two examples of AI chatbots that you can have a conversation with. You could ask them about a subject that you’re studying at school, or a part of history that you’re interested in, or tips for good places to visit on holiday.
Teachers might be able to use these apps to create lesson plans but they have other uses, too, like helping people be more creative. For example, the AI could help invent characters and write stories.
There are also “text-to-image” AIs, like DALL-E and Mid journey, which can create pictures for you based on your ideas (or “prompts”). For example, you could ask them to make a photo of a cheese-eating space dog having a picnic on the Moon, or a crayon drawing of a goat playing football in the field.
“Text-to-music” AIS like Splash Pro, Cassette and Stable Audio work in a similar way, turning your prompts into music. You could ask the AI to make a fast pop song that’s a soundtrack for your gaming video, or a relaxing slow song that helps you focus on homework.
Creative AI technology is developing very fast, but there are some worries. Some writers, artists and musicians are worried that these AIs are being “trained” using their work without their permission. One thing that’s important to know is that these AI tools are not designed for young people to use alone. If you want to use or explore them, make sure you do it with an adult.
23. What can AI chatbots do?a. Have a talk with people.
b. Help students with schoolwork.
c. Create lesson plans for teachers.
d. Invent new machines for people.
A.abc | B.abd | C.acd | D.bcd |
A.The apps. | B.The plans. | C.The stories. | D.The teachers. |
A.By telling stories. | B.By giving examples. |

C.Becoming interested in AI | D.Being crazy about AI |

“We should get her something special as a present—like a magic necklace or ring!” said Molly excitedly. “I’ll see if anybody knows where a clever girl like me could find one...”
First she went into the wonderland, where a fairy lived. Molly asked her where she could find a magic ring.
“I don’t know about anything like that!” the fairy replied. “But have an egg from my huge chicken!” It was the size of a football!
Molly thanked her before going to the garden where Grandfather Tree lived. She asked him if he had heard of any magic things. “No,” said Grandfather Tree in his slow voice, “but I can give you some of these lovely mushrooms (蘑菇). I picked them just now!”
