Once a year, a race is held for old cars. A lot of cars entered for this race last year and there was a great deal of excitement just before it began. One of the most handsome cars was a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. The most unusual car was a Benz which had only three wheels (车轮). Made in 1885, it was the oldest car taking part in the race. After a great many loud explosions(爆炸), the race began. Many of the cars broke down on the course and some drivers spent more time under their cars than in them.

A few cars, however, completed the race. The winning car reached a speed (速度) of forty miles an hour much faster than any of its rivals. It sped (加速前进) downhill at the end of the race and its driver had a lot of trouble trying to stop it. The race gave everyone a great deal of pleasure. It was very different from modern car races but no less exciting.

It is sunny and warm today. A dog is sleeping. A panda comes to the dog and says, “You are a lazy dog. You don't do anything every day.”

“What do I need to do?” asks the dog. My owner gives me food to eat. My owner takes me out for a walk. My owner loves me. Ha! I eat, I go out for a walk and I sleep. I don't have any other things to do.”

“But don't you have any ambitions(抱负）？” asks the panda.

“Ambitions? What do I need ambitions to do? I'm just a dog,” says the dog. “What ambitions do you have?”

“I often go to other countries and make friends with people there. So I can show the world that the Chinese are friendly,” answers the panda.

“Oh,” says the dog, “maybe I should(应该)do something for others.”

It is Sunday today. Ann is shopping with her mother. She wants her mother to buy a new sweater for her.

In a clothing shop, she finds an orange one. She tries it on (试穿). It is too small. She wants a bigger one, but the bigger ones are not orange. Ann doesn’t like other colors. Her mother asks, “Shall we go to another shop to have a look? ” So they go out of the shop and go into another one.

The second shop is bigger than the first, and in it there are many kinds of sweaters of different sizes and colors. Ann tries on an orange one. It is too big. She tries a smaller one. It is OK.

“How much is it ?” Ann’s mother asks the woman who sells clothes. Then they find it too dear (贵), and they don’t have so much money with them.

“Would you like a cheaper one ? ” The woman asks.

“ No, we shall take this one. My daughter likes it. We will come back to buy it tomorrow.” Ann’s mother answers.

It is Mike’s first birthday in his new country.

Mike is seven years old. He is from Mexico(墨西哥). Now, he is in America with his parents.

Mike has lots of new friends. They are all at his birthday party.

Oh, it is time for the party.

Mike’s dad makes a big flower with many candies. Then, he gives Mike a long stick（棍子）. Mike covers （盖住，蒙住） his eyes and starts to break （打破） the big flower. It is a little difficult ________ he can’t see it. But finally the candies fall out （落下）, and everyone starts to eat them. It is an interesting game.

Then the birthday cake comes. Mike’s mum makes   it for her son. Everyone starts to sing Happy Birthday. Mike is very happy.

They are having a good time.
