I had to stay at Dallas Airport that night, waiting for a transferring flight（转机）.

King’s College Summer School is an annual（每年的）training program for all the middle school students who want to improve their English. Who is the greatest teacher in Chinese history？ You can' t think of anyone else when you hear people read Confucius' 2，500﹣year﹣old words：

"All study but no thinking makes people puzzled． All thinking but no study makes people lazy．"

September 28th was Confucius' birthday．   He was born in the Kingdom of Lu，in today's Shandong Province．   He had a hard child．   His father died when he was only 3．   His mother brought him up，   As a child， he had to work to help his mother， but young Confucius didn't give up studying．   He visited many famous teachers and learned music， history， poetry and sports．

Later， he became a teacher and started the first public school in Chinese history．   At that time，only children from rich families could go to school if they wanted to learn． He had about 3，000students in his lifetime．

Chinese look upon Confucius as the greatest thinker and also the greatest teacher．   For more than 2 ， 500years，Confucius' ideas have been around in people's everyday lives．   Now they have gone far into Western countries and South Asia．   People can still hear them today．

Why are his ideas so popular？ Confucius' most important ideas are kindness and good manners．Confucius said young people should take care of the old． A kind person should care for others． Be strict wish yourself， but be kind to others． As a great teacher， Confucius said that all should go to school if they wanted to learn． People use his ideas to help themselves and society． Now， more than 100Internet websites are teaching people about Confucius and his ideas．

Few words are spoken more often every day on the streets of Britain than “I’m sorry”. This phrase has become such a common response(反应) that it has taken on a lot of meanings.

Saying “Sorry” means to apologize(道歉). This is simple and easy to understand. We learn it both as a native speaker and as a student of foreign languages.

But in Britain, it takes on another meaning. It is a cultural expression. Imagine this: a man walks down the street, looking down at his phone. A woman is walking in the opposite direction, towards the man. She sees him, but she can’t get out of the way in time. The man bumps (碰撞) into the woman. Who should say sorry? Naturally, the man should say sorry, because it was he who wasn’t looking where he was going. Yet in Britain, it is common for both to apologize.

It is known that British people, like most people, do not enjoy conflict(冲突).So to quickly calm the situation, British people will apologize to each other.

Other times it may sound funny to hear “sorry”. Some of my friends say it at restaurants, as they ask the waiter: “Sorry, but can I order another drink?” It is not to apologize, but just to express that we need the waiter. In Britain, sorry doesn’t always mean exactly what you think.

A girl named Alice is tired of sitting with her sister on the riverbank, who is reading a book without any pictures or dialogues in it. She has nothing to do.

It’s always challenging to face fear. Here are some ways to help you overcome（克服）it.

As we know, breathing can help us relax. If you purposely breathe out longer than you breathe in, your body will calm down. If you start to feel fearful, try this. Take a breath in (to a count of 7 in your mind), and then slowly breathe out (to a count of 11 in your mind). To your surprise, if you do this for a minute or so, you’ll calm down quickly. We call this "7/11 breathing".

When we feel fearful, it’s harder to think clearly. But if we force ourselves to use the part of thinking brain, this will help to calm us down. The easiest way to do this is with numbers. You can set your own fear from l to 10, 10 being the worst state and 1 being the most relaxed state. When you’re feeling fearful, ask yourself; “Okay, what grade do I get right now? 7 or 5?” Just doing this will reduce fear because it starts the thinking brain. Once I gave a speech to three hundred people and I felt fearful. So I graded myself at 6, and waited for myself to go down to 3 before starting. I took control.

Imagine seeing yourself in the situation you were scared, but see yourself being calm and things going well. Doing this starts to recondition your mind to more calmly face the coming events which were causing fear.

It seems that overcoming fear is always the first step to finish all you need to do and it will help you devote yourself to what you really want to be and to do. It takes efforts, but it’s worth your try.

The face-down generation（一代）

If you were born in the 2000s, you are called the oh-ohs. The 21^st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, world-wide, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation?

Some adults worry that you're more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the "face-down generation" because you use your phone so much. They wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.

Other adults worry that today's youth are spoilt (溺爱) and don't want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by "helicopter parents". They were always there to guide and help their children with a busy program filled with homework and after-school activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today's youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.

Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today's teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls' rights to go to school.

So if you're one of the oh-ohs, there's reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you do great and laugh out loud.
