I love taking online courses. They give me a lot more choices and freedom. We can choose to learn whatever we want. Also, online classes enable us to study whenever and wherever we want, which is very convenient.

I don’t think taking online classes is a good way to study. There are many temptations ( 诱惑) on the Internet. Maybe students will play computer games while taking lessons. Or even they will contact with classmates through QQ or Wechat. Students can be distracted from their courses easily. The whole learning process is not as organized as it is in the classroom.

Online classrooms are beneficial. We might feel more focused on learning when we are alone in front of a computer with no one to distract us. In addition, taking courses online also means we can have more time to use a computer, which is a good way to practice our computer skills.

I think the idea of taking online courses is crazy. It can increase our exposure (接触) to computers and the radiation (辐射) from them could do harm to the human body, especially our eyes. Also, sitting in front of a computer for a long time without exercising can be harmful to our health.

There was once an airline with a strict policy. The pilot on every flight must stand at the door with a big smile while the passengers were getting off the plane, saying, “Thank you for flying with us today. Enjoy the rest of your trip.”

One day, an airline pilot had to make a hard landing because of a strong wind. The plane shook badly as the pilot was trying to land it safely. Considering his bad landing, the pilot had difficulty looking his passengers in the eye. He was afraid that the passengers would say something sarcastic about his piloting skills. However, it seemed that the passengers were too nervous or scared to say anything to him about the landing.

Nearly everyone had gotten off the plane except for an old lady and her granddaughter. They were walking down the aisle (通道) slowly. The old lady went up to the pilot and asked, “Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?”

The pilot’s face went red with embarrassment, but he replied politely, “No, madam. That’s just fine. What is your question?”

The old lady said, “Can my granddaughter give you a hug? She wants to show her thanks, but she's too shy to ask.”

The pilot couldn’t believe his ears. He gave the girl a big hug and said, “Thank you so much! It means a lot to me.”

Born in 1990, Li Ziqi lives in the deep mountains in Sichuan Province. She didn't have a happy childhood. When she was a child, her father died and her mother left her. She started living a poor life with her grandparents.     57    From him, she learnt lots of skills, like cooking, making bamboo baskets, growing vegetables and making handiwork.

At age 14. Li had to make a living to support her family. After working for 8 years in the city, she returned home as her grandmother fell ill. To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, governments at every level in China have been using many different control measures.

In heavily-affected areas, the government has chosen to lock down cities. In Hubei province, for example, after Wuhan’s lockdown on Jan 23, 13 other cities in the province also adopted lockdown measures. The decision proved effective (有效的) in stopping the virus’ spread at its root, China Daily said.

In some villages, people put up red banners (条幅) or used loudspeakers to educate people about the virus. Many communities also set up checkpoints to check people’s temperatures, keep records of their travel history, keep non-residents (非住户) out of the community, and make sure that people quarantine (隔离) themselves after returning from high-risk areas. Some community workers also help those who are quarantined at home by bringing in food or drugs, taking out the garbage, and offering psychological (心理的) advice. As Xinhua Agency noted, the community workers have built the first line of defense (防御) against the virus across China. They do play an important part in this battle.

According to Xinhua Agency, there are millions of community workers in 650,000 urban and rural communities across the country. Many people from all walks of life have volunteered to do this job.

“In the face of an unexpected outbreak, it’s amazing to see that China could mobilize (动员) people on such a large scale (规模),” Li Baoping from the Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences told Xinhua. “Great governance capacity (治理能力) at all levels gives us confidence in winning the battle.”

At just 12 years old, Leonardo Nicanor Quinteros is still in middle school, 1. but he has already run his own free school. He helps other children with their studies.

Leonardo loves to study. After seeing some of his classmates trying to keep up at school, he decided to do something about it.
