DOGS are man’s best friends. We can have a dog as a pet. We can also train（训练） them to do many jobs, such as leading（引导）the blind（盲人） and smelling out criminals. But do you see a dog looking after（照料）a stall (摊位)? Let’s meet Ken-kun, the most hardworking shop assistant（最勤劳的商店助理）in the dog world.

Ken-kun is a three-year-old Shiba Inu (柴犬). He works at a roasted sweet potato (烤红薯) stall in Japan. When customers come to buy the food, Ken-kun greets（打招呼） them with a warm smile. Then the dog watches them choose the sweet potato from the box and leave the money. Will Ken-kun jump out and chase（追赶）the person who didn’t pay up? Not really. After all, no one wants to cheat（欺骗）such a cute worker.   

What’s inside（在…里面）your daddy’s wallet? Some colored notes and some plastic （塑料）cards. These are “money.” People use money to buy food, clothes, toys, etc (等).

A long time ago, people didn’t buy things. They swapped them. For example, Jack could swap（交换）some vegetables with Jeff to get some meat in return（作为回报）.

Then, people started to use things like shells and salt as “money.” Later, people started to make metal coins(金属货币) and paper notes（纸币）.

As time went by, people found it hard to go around (四处) with a lot of notes and coins. So they put their money in a safe place called a “bank.” A bank keeps our money safe(安全), and gives us a plastic card to pay in shops.

Today, we also pay with our phones. This is called e-money (电子货币)!

I am writing to tell you something about the Art Festival held at my school last month. It was the fourth time we held this event. The festival lasted(持续) for a whole week and is one of the most popular school events.

We held a paper folding competition. The students made animals, houses, food, rockets and many other things with paper. They were so creative. Their creations looked so much like the real things.   

We also learnt how to tie-dye (扎染) a T-shirt. We first tied a T-shirt in knots and then put it into the dye (染料). By doing so, some parts of the T-shirt were colored more deeply than the other parts. It was interesting to see all those different designs created by the students.

On the last day of the festival, we held an evening party. The students gave wonderful performances, including singing, dancing, crosstalk and dramas. We all had a good time at the party.

It’s no wonder (难怪) that people call it “the Garden City.” They visited many places. S.E.A Aquarium, or South East Asia Aquarium (东南亚水族馆), was his favorite. He got to know a lot of sea animals there. He also had a happy time at the Singapore Zoo and Universal Studios (环球影城). What a wonderful holiday!
