Riding a bike is fun. Some people ride to school. Others ride to work. No matter why you ride, it can always keep you happy and healthy.
Are you interested in riding a bike? If your answer is yes, you’ll be welcome to join in our bike tour.
Our route (路线): We’ll take a bike tour. We’ll start from our school gate and finally ride to an old village in the south of our city. It’s about ten kilometers. Then we’ll ride back to our school along the way.
Things to do: The bike ride is sure to be the most important thing for us. However, along the way, we can enjoy beautiful nature and make friends with bike lovers from other schools.
Also, we may taste local food in that ancient village.
Something necessary: Your bike must be in good working condition. What’s more, a set of riding equipment (骑行装备) is necessary. You should have one helmet (头盔), a pair of strong gloves, sunglasses, cycling clothes and a small backpack with something useful. We may be unprofessional, but we still have to do something to keep ourselves safe.
Tips: Please fill in a form before you’ve decided to take part in the bike tour. Do you want to know more? Call Mr. Smith at 346-789 or e-mail us at greenschoolbiketour123@126.com by this Friday, May 10th.

The firemen from Engine 642 in West Henrietta, New York, answered a call from a driver. He had got into a car accident. When the firemen got to the place, they found that the driver was a pizza delivery(递送) driver. They made sure that the driver was taken care of and safety sent to the hospital before they took it on themselves to finish the job. With smiles on their faces, the team arrived at the buyer’s house with the pizza in hand and told him what happened.
“Just down the road, they delivered the pizza and thanked the customer for deciding to order out and not risking burning food!” according to a Facebook post.
While the customer was excited at the unusual delivery, he was thankful for the pizza. It was not the first time that the Henrietta Fire Department gave a helping hand to people—just days after pictures of the pizza event were put on Facebook, the department page posted photos of their firemen changing a tire(换轮胎) for an old couple on the Internet.
“Our kindness continues with stopping and changing a tire for an old couple who stopped on the side of I-390 this evening.”wrote the station.

Fruit, bread and vegetables are the most wasted items in any family. It is reported that about 8 million tons of food are wasted in Spain each year.
Yo No Desperdicio is a sharing platform like others. It helps with ride-sharing or apartment exchange. However, what's being exchanged and shared here is food. Its website and app try to give a way out of the serious problem in Spain. Users log in(登陆) the website or app to post information about the food they want to share or to check if there is something they need. The giver plans the time and place together with the taker for the free pick-up. Smart ideas of turning the leftovers(剩饭菜) into something that tastes better are told here, and so are the creative uses of the overripe(热过的 ) and the unwanted (such as the green top of carrots and lemon peels). With the clear goal of reducing the waste, the platform gives users and visitors a chance to rethink-if they are serious enough about the food brought home by them. It not only helps them make better use of food but also brings them awareness(意识) of food waste. The latest news, articles and reports about the action that the whole takes to save and share food are ready for people to check out anytime and anywhere.
Unluckily, the platform hasn’t been a big success. But there is still hope that users will become more comfortable with the food-sharing platform.
8. Which slogan(标语) is most likely(可能) to be seen on Yo No Desperdicio?A.Safe food, save life. |
B.Don’t throw it away but give it away. |
C.Eat the best, leave the rest. |
D.Good things are just around the corner. |
A.模仿 | B.挑战 | C.批评 | D.减少 |
A.It collects the leftovers from the users and visitors through free pick-up. |
B.It helps people know the importance of saving food with the help of rules. |
C.It gives creative ideas to help with the food that used to be thrown away. |
D.It helps the poor to get something good and delicious to eat by paying a little . |
A.All the other countries in Europe take food waste seriously. |
B.The awareness of food waste is as important as the action taken to reduce it. |
C.Those who do food sharing have to log in to the websites, and so do the takers. |
D.People may get information about some food-sharing activities at the website. |
A few weeks ago, we attended a lesson given by our classmate Wu Ruijie who talked about some of her experiences in America. It was very interesting and lively, we all listened carefully and were moved by the lesson.
During the lesson, she shared some stories about her daily life in the United States with us and some culture shocks(文化冲突) that she experienced. I still remember the story she told which took place in the New York subway. One day, she was talking to her Chinese friend on her mobile phone while a black woman was standing beside her. She often used a Chinese word whose pronunciation was similar to the rude N-word, so the black woman started to very angrily glare at (怒视) her. This was only one of her stories.
Ms. Tang also shared a story she had experienced when she was in Australia. On a hot sunny day, while she was walking on the street holding an umbrella to protect her from the strong sunlight, suddenly a man behind her said to her, “is it raining?” The reason is that in Australia people don’t use umbrellas on sunny days, so the man thought it was strange and asked Ms Tang.
Through the embarrassing stories, we can see many differences from country to country to decide how we should face these situations when we go abroad. Here are some suggestions: First, we should respect everyone wherever we are. Second, learn some local culture before you get there. Third, if you make some mistakes, you should explain the reasons. Finally, keep a kind heart at all times.
All in all, culture shock is not a big deal as long as we treat others kindly. Please pay attention to learning Western culture.
12. If you say a word similar to the N-word to a black man, he will think__________.A.you are interesting |
B.you are boring |
C.you are lonely |
D.You are unfriendly |
A.should only respect the local people |
B.should leave the country at once |
C.should keep a kind heart at all times |
D.should take a lot of money with us |
A. | B. | C. | D. |
A.show people how to respect the black woman |
B.encourage people to be more active |
C.give suggestions to deal with the culture shock |
D.share some interesting stories with people |
Are you used to buying things on sales? Here is some advice on how to get the most and the best things with your money.
A “sale”price isn’t always the “best” price. Some shops sell the goods at lower prices for a limited (有限的) time. Other shops may have a sale price on the goods every day. So go to more shops to find goods that might fit you best.
Some may say “quantities(数量) limited”, so make sure the shop has the goods you want before you go in. Others may say “time limited”, so try to understand the fact and make your goods plan for shopping as early as possible.
If something is on sale but the shop is kind of far from your place, think about your time and how much you will spend on transportation. These will make you spend more money on shopping.
If you want to save money, it’s a good idea to shop on the Internet. Things online are usually cheaper but you must make sure they are good.
The shops sell such things to make you buy more goods. For example, “Buy One, Get One Free.” if you don’t really want or need the thing, it’s not a good idea.
A.Go online. |
B.Think of something else. |
C.Shop around. |
D.Don't buy what you don't need. |
E.Try to find your favorite. |
F.Read the sale ads(广告). |
