How do you usually read? Smartphones and e-readers have become more common recently. Some people worry that the days of paper books will be gone. But recent surveys have shown that traditional books are still popular among reader. Research company Nielsen found that in the UK, sales of e-books are falling while sales of paper books are rising. Another survey of university students from the US, Japan and Germany also showed that 92 percent of them preferred paper books. So what’s behind the paper book comeback?
The most popular reason given was that paper books bring a very different reading experience. US students said that they liked the smell of paper books. Other students said that they get a sense of achievement when they finish reading a paper book.
Paper books can also be very personal objects to lovers of reading. Many people like to write down their names on the inside cover. If there’s stain(污点)from coffee or food, it’s all right. These accidents make the book even more personal. It’s as if readers of paper books make friends with them.
This “friendship” people develop with books isn’t just sentimental(情感的). Research has shown that readers remember more information reading from paper books than e-books. People also more easily end up with headaches or sore eyes while reading e-books.
It seems that paper books, which have been in production(生产) since the 15th century, still have an attraction. So why not pick up a book, start reading and become a full man?

When I met Old Peter, the store’s owner, he told me it was difficult to run a traditional (传统) bookstore. Most young people now would like to read e-books and more people bought books online.
Childhood memories came back to me so clearly. A group of us kids often went to the store. We looked at the new books, or just talked with Peter. We spent hours reading there. Peter encouraged us to share our ideas by writing them on a large board.
A few months later, I was back and was surprised to see that the Sunshine Bookstore was still open for business. It was still old outside, but when I went into it, it was quite a different world. A book reading was going on. Nearby, some readers were sharing their ideas on a screen instead of the large board. Some were reading on computers. It even had a coffee shop selling nice food. Clearly, the Sunshine Bookstore was in good, creative hands.
Peter told me that there were more activities in the coffee shop such as book readings and even music shows and movie nights. The bookstore was turned into a place where the book lovers got together and shared ideas and experiences.
“Well, as you can see, technology (科技) and creativity have brought my old bookstore into the 21st century! I’m so glad to see that everything I wanted it to offer (提供) to the neighborhood is still here,” said Peter.
No matter how times change, there are always people who love reading. Traditional bookstores are also changing in a creative way.

We asked about 2,000 people what they would do during the summer vacation. Most of the survey-takers agreed that the summer vacation was a break from homework and they could relax.
Amy is in high school. After school, she sometimes works in a cafe. She told us, “It’s a chance to relax after a hard school year—sleep more, and see my friends more.”
We also asked them if they would be too busy or kind of bored. About half(52%) of the survey-takers said they would be busy during the summer vacation but still have time to relax. And that is exactly how it should be.
How bored or busy people feel during the summer vacation depends on how old they are. Survey-takers in their early teens were more likely to be bored. Among them, 40% said they would be bored and only 10% thought they would be too busy.

People often went from one town to another by bus. It took a long time. In 1958, China decided to build the railway. It starts in Xining of Qinghai and ends in Lhasa.

Now more people visit Tibet. People in Tibet get more chances to travel, too. The train also takes things from Tibet to the world. The railway brings people in Tibet a happier and richer life. One day they went into a restaurant and ordered some cakes. While(当……的时候) they were waiting for the cakes, they remembered that they didn't bring any money.
"Hey, we forgot to bring money to pay for our cakes," the big tortoise said.

【推荐2】You need some bread and milk. But half an hour later, you leave the supermarket with a trolley (手推车) full of food. What games do supermarkets play to make us spend so much money?
The tricks usually start before you walk in. Outside the supermarket door, anybody who walks past can smell warm, fresh bread. That makes us hungry and ready to buy lots of food, not just bread.
Now you’re inside and, of course, a small basket would be fine, but in some supermarkets, all they have are trolleys. And of course the problem with a trolley is that it looks sad and lonely with just one or two products inside. So we may fill it with something. In fact, supermarket trolleys are actually getting bigger so that we buy more.
Of course, many people shop in supermarkets because they think everything is cheaper than in other shops. So supermarkets offer very cheap prices on some things but then have higher prices for other products. One new trick is to put red stickers (标签) on products. Customers usually connect red stickers with lower prices so the red stickers are easy to be noticed, even when there is no reduction (降价)! Interestingly, this trick appears to work more with men than with women.
There is a story behind the position of everything in the supermarket. For example, customers often go only to buy milk. So they put it right at the back, forcing you to go past hundreds of shelves full of other products. The position of products on each shelf is also important. The most expensive products are usually at eye-level so you see these at once. The exception is anything that children might like. These products are on lower shelves so that kids see and even reach them.
Except what you see and smell in a supermarket, how about what you listen to? In most supermarkets they have soft, slow music. It’s so relaxing that you slow down and spend more time (and money) in the store. You also move more slowly when the supermarket is busy. Experts suggest it’s better to shop when it’s quieter, on a Monday or a Tuesday for example. And be careful at the checkouts when you pay for the things you buy. These are sometimes on purpose, to make you buy something from the checkout shelves while you wait for your turn.
So, next time you go into your local supermarket, remember these tricks and see if you can come out with just the things you want.

When you are going to be late, you only dream of taking a plane there. Can your dream come true? Yes!You can take a plane only in months.
Four German engineers are interested in making planes. They are making a new Plane--lilium jet. It doesn't look like a plane but an egg. Many people think it looks funny and interesting. The great "egg" can take two people to the sky and fly three hundred kilometers in one hour. That's really great.
Some people call Lilium jet "a flying car". Why? Firstly,it's not difficult for people to learn to drive it. People can just drive it like driving a car. But it can go faster and farther than a car. Secondly,Lilium jet is not very big only a quarter of a plane. So it doesn't need an airport(飞机场). Only a small place is OK. It can stop everywhere.
Lilium jet will come on the market in a few months. If you want to make your trip easy and interesting, why not buy one? I'm sure you will have a good time on it.

Based on an analysis of the data from 58 studies related to screen time and various measures of academic achievement, it should be noted that some individual studies do find a connection between total screen time and academics. Too much screen time produces several problems, including academics, sleep, socialization as well as physical and mental health.
The findings of the new study lend support to the need to look at not only how much time teens spend on the use of digital devices but what positive and negative effects various devices may have on academic achievement. The bottom line is that parents and educational professionals should consider supervision(监督) and reduction on screen time to improve the academic performance of teens, as the academic performance of teens appeared to be more adversely affected than that of children.
Children may be obsessed with activities like playing games, while teens can even stay up all night texting or chatting. So the most important rule should be no digital devices of any kind allowed in bedrooms. Also, there should be no screen time of any type at least one hour before bedtime. The blue light from these devices causes teens to have trouble falling asleep.
Alternatives(替代品) to digital use can be physical activities or reading. There is an increase in Vitamin D deficiency(不足) in teens from not getting at least an hour per day of exposure to the sun and they need to spend more time outside. Spending time reading each day is vital(important) for all family members. It’s great to read the same book and discuss different thoughts. Research is starting to show that we comprehend more from reading from books on paper than books on screen.
Besides limiting time and encouraging alternative activities, teens are encouraged to use media creatively. This might include making videos, recording their own music, or learning to code. Apps to teach office skills or researching are great. While monitoring and setting limits are the key, parents also need to suggest and encourage alternative uses of digital devices as well as alternative activities to replace the screen time.

Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle (挣扎;奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.
When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful ones of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are living successful lives.
Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock -climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.
