Whether you’re telling someone how to get to your house or guiding a stranger to a local museum, you should know how to give good directions. Here’re some tips for you.

First, guiding people by landmarks.
Instead of directing people from the beginning to the end, think of it as directing them from landmarks to landmarks. It’ll let the person know if he’s still on the route (路线) you advised him to take.
Second, mapping out the directions.
You can either create a map of the route in mind or simply draw a map. A map will allow people to realize where they’re going.
Third, choosing the right route to describe.
Give the simplest directions that are most likely to make the person understand. This way, you can reduce the chance that the person you’re giving directions will get lost.
Fourth, communicating effectively (有效地).
Speak slowly and clearly. Also, don’t use words, phrases or names that only locals know.
1. The writer tries to tell us how to show people the way to a certain place.
2. It’s better to say “when you see a bank, turn right” than “go straight and turn right”.
3. A real map is a must when giving directions.
4. The shortest route is always the best route.
5. The expressions we use should be understandable when giving a direction.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了学生喜欢的一门新的科目——学校园艺。

【推荐2】①At school, students usually learn many subjects in the classroom like English, math and so on. Now there is a new one in some schools—school gardening (园艺). It is an outdoor (户外) subject. In the gardening class, teachers teach students different kinds of vegetables and how to grow (种) them. Then students work in groups.

②________ Why? Because they can have much fun in this class. They don’t have to sit at their desks in the classroom all day. They can get out, get their hands dirty, do things with their own (自己的) hands and relax.

③It’s also fun to get something to eat and see. In some schools, students like to grow carrots and tomatoes. It’s always interesting for them to get a carrot or a tomato, wash it and eat it right in the garden. In some schools, students like to grow flowers (花). When it’s spring, all the flowers come out and they’re really beautiful. Students like to walk and talk in the beauty. That’s their favorite thing to do after busy hours of work.

This teaches students teamwork. Also, some vegetables are easy to grow, but others need a long time. This teaches students they need to wait (等待) before they get the things they want.

Cultures across the world have different ways for people to greet one another. In Spain, many people kiss both cheeks. In New Zealand, they bump noses! The goal of these actions is to make others feel welcome. However, some people would rather say hello orally. They don’t like being touched. Neither does the sensitive plant.

Some people keep the sensitive plant as a houseplant because of its interesting behavior. When you touch the leaves of the sensitive plant, it releases(释放) water from its leaves and stalks. As water drains(流出) to the plant’s base, the leaves close and the stalks droop. This causes the plant to look wilted!

The sensitive plant draws back from physical contact because it doesn’t want you to touch it, of course! Just like people, this plant sends physical signals that you should leave it alone. This reaction to touch is a defense mechanism. Many animals and insects eat plants, so the sensitive plant learned to move to scare away predators(捕食者). Frightened by the sudden wilting, hungry animals move away to find a different plant to eat. Additionally, wilted plants don’t look mouth-watering. This encourages other nearby predators to look for their dinner elsewhere.

If you touch the sensitive plant and it wilts, have no fear! It’s still a healthy plant. After a few minutes, it will send water back to its leaves and stand straight up again. However, it takes lot of time for the sensitive plant to rejuvenate itself. Don’t touch the plant just to watch it wilt. It may seem like fun, but it’s not fun for rejuvenate.

It’s always important to pay attention to the body language of plants, animals, and other people! We should never want to make other living things uncomfortable, and especially not for our own entertainment.

1. What’s the main purpose of writing Paragraph 1?
A.To introduce the cultures across the world.

2. We can infer that the sensitive plant may be also called _________.
A.forget-me-notB.touch-me-notC.rose of sharonD.daughter of wind
3. The underlined word “wilted” means “________” in Chinese.
A.艳丽的B.茂盛的C.枯萎的D.有毒的
4. The sensitive plant’s interesting behavior is actually a way to ________.
A.protect itselfB.entertain itselfC.attract animalsD.kill animals
5. In the writer’s view, _________.
A.watching the sensitive plant wilt is fun
B.we should treat other living things kindly
C.body language helps us know each other better
D.it’s a good idea to keep the sensitive plant as a houseplant
