On the earth, we put food on a plate. Gravity holds the food down and keeps it on a plate. But there is almost no gravity in space, so food can float(飘动) away, and astronauts must eat carefully.
Sleeping is very different in space. Some astronauts like to float in the air, but most like to be in a sleeping bag. They tie the bag to a wall so that they won’t float away at night. Exercise is very important in space. On the earth, your legs carry your body, but in space, astronauts float, so they do not use their legs often. This is very bad for their legs, so they must exercise for thirty minutes every day.
After a day’s work, astronauts relax. They may listen to music, read, watch films, play games, or talk to their friends and families on the earth.

Fire Plan part 1 If you are woken up by the sound of your smoke alarm or by the sound of what you think is a fire, remember: STOP—THINK—ACT Stay calm. Wake all the members of your family. Make your way out together, through the nearest exit. If a door feels hot, DO NOT open it. When everyone is safely outside, call the Fire Service from a public telephone or a neighbor’s house. Don’t go back to the house for any reason until the Fire Service tell you it is safe to return. If the fire is blocking your way or you can’t use the stairs for any reason, you must use the second part of your Fire Escape Plan. |
Fire Plan part 2 In fires there is sometimes a lot of smoke. This can kill you. If you have to go through a smoke-filled hallway or room, get down on your hands and knees and crawl(爬行)under it. Get all the family into a room from where it would be safest to drop from a window, onto a flat roof or into the garden. ALWAYS pass children down first. Never leave children until last. Remember-NEVER JUMP! Lower yourself to arms length and then drop. Everyone’s home is different. You will need to have a Fire Escape Plan that suits your home. Practice your Fire Escape Plan with your family at home. It could help to save your lives. |

It is China’s new Super Bus. It is going for a test run in Beijing at the end of this year. Some other cities are also interested in running the Super Bus. They hope the traffic problems will be solved.
The Super Bus runs along fixed tracks (固定轨道) . The bus sits on top of two 2.2-meter-tall legs. The legs have wheels at one end. Small cars can drive under the bus, so the Super Bus does not take up road space.
The bus runs on electricity and solar power. It can travel up to 60 km every hour. Its creator, Song Youzhou, says a lot of traffic jams will be reduced.
The Super Bus can do the work of 40 buses. In that way, it can save 860 tons of fuel (燃料) every year, according to Song.
“To build a Super Bus and its track costs less than building subways. Subways are nearly ten times more expensive to build.” Song said.
Some people worry that the Super Bus may not be safe. However, Song says there’s no need to worry about. The Super Bus has laser scanners (激光扫描仪) between its legs. The scanners make sure the cars keep a safe distance(距离).

In Chiang Mai, there is a museum, it was decorated with beautiful marble tiles(大理石砖) and a huge marble statue(大理石雕像). Although the museum is a little far away from the city center of Chiang Mai, many people come here and admire the statue. One night, after all the tourists left, marble tiles started talking to the marble statue.
Tiles: Hi, statue. Don’t you think it’s unfair that everybody comes here to admire you while stepping on us?
Statue: Dear brothers, don’t you remember that we are actually from the same place?
Tiles: Yes, we do. That is why we feel it is even more unfair. All of us were born from the same place, and yet the world treats us so friendly now. That is unfair!
Statue: Yes, you are right, my brothers. But do you still remember the day when the artist tried to work on you, but you said no to him?
Tiles: Yes, we refused him because we didn’t want to get hurt.
Statue: Well, since you refused his tools, he couldn’t work on you. Then he started working on me instead. I knew that I would be something different and special after his hard work. I bore all the pain and allowed him to carve me!

The climate is changing. Many agreed that climate change may be one of the greatest threats (威胁) facing the planet. Recent years show increasing temperatures in various regions, and/or increasing extremities (极端性) in weather patterns.
Is the Earth getting warmer? Yes! The Earth has warmed by about 1°F over the past 100 years. But why? Well, scientists are not exactly sure. The Earth could be getting warmer on its own, but many of the world’s leading climate scientists think that things people do are helping to make the Earth warmer.
Global Warming may be a big problem, but can you make a difference? Yes! There are several little things you can do to make a difference. Try carpooling. This will help reduce the amount of fossil fuels going into the atmosphere. Whenever you use electricity, you help put greenhouse gases into the air. Turn off lights, the television, and the computer when you are through with them. Also, planting trees is fun and a great way to reduce greenhouse gases. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, from the air. Finally, don’t forget about recycling.
