In many English homes, people eat four meals a day: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea(茶) and dinner. People eat breakfast at any time from seven to nine in the morning. They eat porridge, eggs or bread. English people drink tea or coffee at breakfast.

Lunch comes at 1:00. Afternoon tea is from 4:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon and dinner is about 7:30. First they have soup, then they have meat or fish with vegetables. After that they eat some other things, like bananas, apples, or oranges.

But not all English people eat like that. Some of them have their dinner in the middle of the day. Their meals are breakfast, dinner, tea and supper.

Separate eating(分开就餐) is common in the European countries. However, in China’s eating culture, whether eating at home or eating out, a grouped eating system is used in most situations.

However, COVID-19 has challenged the Chinese eating tradition of sharing dishes together, which makes the government, restaurants and citizens rethink about eating customs.

Standards on individual (单人的) eating, serving two pairs of chopsticks came out on March 18, 2020. The purpose of the new standards is to protect the public health in a scientific and practical way. Over 200 companies have followed the standards. In order to encourage more companies and customers to follow the standards, some restaurants offer free parking to those who use serving chopsticks.

For Chinese, it is not easy to change their eating behavior, because they think the grouped eating system is a tradition. When they share the food, they are building up a close relationship among people. Besides, it is difficult to divide Chinese dishes into separate parts.

Eating separately is a break from tradition, but it is helpful to prevent diseases from spreading and improve health. People can still sit at the same table, sharing the same food and the same culture in a new way. It also means a chance of creating something new in Chinese food.

The popularity of tea has risen around the world. It is said that tea was first found about 5,000 years ago. Tea plants are commonly found in East and South Asia. In many of these countries, tea has been known to have a medical purpose, and different types of tea have different health benefits. In recent years, the knowledge of these health benefits has spread to the Western world. One of the tea that has gained popularity in the West is green tea, which certain studies have suggested it can help to reduce blood pressure and control weight.

Cultures with a long tradition of tea drinking have even turned into an art of form. The tea pot is just as important as the tea itself. Some cultures recommend the drinking of clear tea, meaning just the tea itself without anything added. In other cultures, the tea drink has been added other things, including sugar, different types of milk and herbs(香草). The pack of tea into bags has made the drink more convenient; it has raised its popularity to new heights.
