Green is an important color in nature. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is also the color of most growing plants. Sometimes, the word “green” means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes, it means something that is not yet finished. For example, a greenhorn is someone who has little experience as he is new to a situation. In the 15th century, a greenhorn was a young cow whose horns(角) had not yet developed. A century later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had no experience in war. By the 18th century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today — a person who is new in a job.
About one hundred years ago, greenhorn was a popular expression in the west of America. People used it to describe a man if he came from one of the big cities in the east. The greenhorn didn’t have the skills to live in the hard country. Someone who is good at growing plants is said to have a green thumb(大拇指). This comes from the early 20th century. A person with a green thumb can make plants grow quickly and well. The Green Revolution is the name given to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains some years ago. It was the result of hard work by scientists who had green thumbs. Green is also the color used to describe the feeling — Jealousy(嫉妒). The green-eyed monster(怪兽) is not a dangerous animal from outer space. It is an expression used about 400 years ago by the British writer William Shakespeare in his play Othello. It means the unpleasant feeling when someone has something he wants to get. In most places in the world, the color green is one of the traffic lights. Green has so many different meanings that we should know more to understand it better.

Soon after, they’re posting the video on social media. A teenage boy is playing a new song on his guitar. His mother is filming him. Two days later, the boy discovers that other people are watching the video online.
Parents in the UK post about 1,000 photos of their children online from when they are born until their fifth birthday. Babies and toddlers don’t care about this at the time. But a study by the University of Michigan suggests that there is a difference with 10-to 17-year-olds. Teenagers don’t always like parents posting some photos. All babies cry, but teenagers don’t want people to see old photos of themselves doing this.
Some parents share all kinds of photos of their children, maybe even when they are doing something silly. They do it with good purposes, for example, to share special moments with grandparents or family who live far away. But some middle-aged users of social media don’t check their privacy (隐私) settings and share posts with others by accident.
In some countries, parents are not allowed to post photos of their own children without their permission. In Italy, a 16-year-old boy is requiring his mother either to stop sharing images of him on social media or pay a €10,000 fine! In France, parents pay fines of up to €45,000 and can spend a year in prison (监狱) when they post photos of their children without their permission.
Parents are usually very sensible (敏感) about photos of their children. The report from the University of Michigan suggests this is an area where it’s important for parents to listen to children over ten. Let them say what they are happy to share, and who with. That way the whole family can enjoy looking back at all those special moments!

Invented by software engineer Josh Wardle, the game has been popular with millions of players across the world. Every midnight, Wordle refreshes its word of the day. For example, the answer for March 3 is ALOUD.
As you guess, the game gives you hints (提示). For example, if a letter is correct and in the right place, it turns green. If the letter is not in the word, it turns gray. If the letter is part of the word but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. These hints make the game into a puzzle (谜).
You need knowledge to win this game, not just luck. Every syllable (音节) in an English word includes at least one vowel (元音), so finding vowels is a useful method. For example, in the word “think”, there is only one syllable and there is one vowel “i”.
Several days ago, I played this game and found it very interesting. First, I guessed the word “table”. Only “a” was green. Then, I guessed “maker” and the “r” turned yellow. In the end, I guessed “carry” and I was correct!

【推荐2】Bacteria Cafeteria
Every day, people use teeth to cut, tear, and chew food. They eat most of the food. But bits of food stick to their teeth. People's mouths are filled with bacteria (细菌). They eat the bits of food. The bacteria increase and build up on the teeth. And they can quickly form a coating called plaque (牙斑).
The bacteria in the plaque produce acid (酸). More acid is created when someone eats food which has sugar or starch. Candy and cookie are sugary foods. Potato chips have starch. The acid from the bacteria goes to work on the teeth. Each tooth has a protective covering called enamel (釉质). It's the hardest material in the body. But the acid is strong enough to eat through the enamel. This creates tooth decay (蛀蚀).
Next, the acid can work its way inside the tooth. Under the enamel is softer material called dentine. Acid quickly eats through the dentine, creating a hole called a cavity. Then the acid can reach the pulp (髓) inside the dentine. The pulp has blood vessels (血管) that feed the tooth. It also has nerves (神经). When the nerves get hurt, a person may feel a toothache.
A dentist should fix tooth decay. Bodies can repair broken bones but not decayed teeth. That's because enamel and dentine aren't living things. Dentists clean out the decay and fill the space with strong material.
But tooth decay should be prevented in the first place. People should visit the dentist twice a year. Dentists clean and examine the teeth. They can treat any tooth problems early. People should also take care of their own teeth. To remove bits of food, bacteria, and acid, people should clean them between their teeth at least once a day. They should also brush their teeth at least twice a day—even when they don't feel like it!
1. What is the purpose of the article?A.To explain how bacteria work. | B.To give a talk on tooth health. |
