When they are hungry, they move their right hands back and forth (向前) in front of their stomachs.
When they mean “Let’s eat”, they put their right hands and move them up and down in front of their mouths.
When they have had enough, they part their thumbs and first fingers, and move their hands from their chests to chins.
If they have a stomach ache, they put both hands on their stomachs, and move them back and forth.

Spelling words takes a long time. There is another faster way to sign. You can show a whole (整个的) word with one sign. To sign some words, you should keep your hands still, which means you can’t move your hands. (Look at the signs for love and ball below.) To sign other words, you need to move your hands. For example, you wave (挥动) your hands.

Arms. How you hold your arms shows how open and receptive you are to people you meet. If you keep your arms to the sides of your body or behind your back, this suggests you are not afraid of taking on whatever comes your way. Outgoing people generally use their arms with big movements, while quieter people keep them close to their bodies. If someone upsets you, just cross your arms to show you're unhappy!
Head. When you want to appear confident, keep your head level. If you are monitor in class, you can also take on this position when you want your words to be taken seriously. However, to be friendly in listening or speaking, you must move your head a little to one side.
Legs. Your legs tend to move around a lot more than normal when you are nervous or telling lies. If you are at interviews, try to keep them still!
Posture (姿势). A good posture makes you feel better about yourself. If you are feeling down, you normally don't sit straight, with your shoulders inwards. This makes breathing more difficult, which in turn can make you feel nervous or uncomfortable.
Mouth. When you are thinking, you often purse your lips (噘起嘴). You might also use this position to hold back an angry comment you don't wish to show. However, it will probably still be noticed, and people will know you're not pleased.

But many people may not know this. In Australia alone there are more than 25 million unused mobile phones lying around, Sydney Morning Herald reported. The gold in these phones can add up to a value of more than $ 80 million (542 million yuan). There are about 2 billion (十亿) smartphone users around the world, who change their phone once every 11 months on average. In China, people generate (产生) 80 million old phones every year, according to New Express Daily.
However, it’s not easy to get the useful things out of the phones. Smartphones have not only useful things, but also harmful materials. Guiyu, a small town in Shantou, Guangdong, is one of the world’s biggest dumping grounds(垃圾倾倒场) for electronic waste, Reuters reported. Many recycling centers in Guiyu simply break the old electronics by hand and don’t think about the pollution it causes. According to a local government report, 81 percent of children in Guiyu are harmed by lead(铅) poisoning.
Veena Sahajwalla, a professor at Australia’s University of New South Wales, has made a mini factory. It makes smartphone recycling cleaner and easier. You need to follow these steps: first, pour out any milk tea left into a wet waste bin; second, put the paper wrapper (包装材料) into a recyclable waste bin; third, throw the single-use cup and straw (吸管) into a dry waste bin.
Sounds complex ? You’ll have to get used to it. From July 1 on, people in Shanghai are required to separate their garbage according to strict rules. Many other cities in China are planning to create similar garbage -separating rules.
Why should we separate our garbage? The answer lies in the increasing of waste we are producing. Chinese cities produce over 200 million tons of waste each year, according to Chinese Economic. Most of this waste is buried (填埋), which may pollute water and soil! In addition, we are running out of space.
In fact, more than half of our waste can be recycled. Recyclable garbage can be made into new materials, while wet garbage can be used to make gas, heat and fertilizer (肥料). So in order to recycle better, we need to separate our garbage.
Can’t garbage-processing companies do the separating job for us? They can. But that requires a lot of work and costs lots of money. Things will become much easier if each of us can separate our own garbage. Besides, the hard task of separating might encourage people to produce less waste. Do you still want to buy that milk tea?

At the party, they had all kinds of small rooms. I went into a special one. In this room, anyone could paint a square. They gave everyone paints in bright, beautiful colors and asked the kids to paint something beautiful. As I looked around at all the squares, I saw the pictures were all bright, except one.
The boy sitting next to me was painting a heart, but it was dark, empty, and lifeless. It lacked the bright colors that other children used.
At first I thought maybe he took the only paint that was left and it just happened to be dark. But when I asked him about it, he said his heart was that color because his own heart felt dark. I asked him why and he told me that he was very sick and his mother was very sick, too. He said that his sickness was not ever going to get better and neither was his mother’s. He looked straight into my eyes and said, "There is nothing anyone can do to help."
I told him I was sorry that he was sick and I could certainly understand why he was so sad. I could even understand why he had made his heart a dark color. But I told him that it isn't true that there is nothing anyone can do to help. Other people may not make him or his mother better but we can do things like giving him or her hugs. Then I hugged him for a long time. I thought my own heart would burst with the love I felt for this sweet little boy. After that, I asked him if he felt any better. He said he did, but he was still sick and nothing would change that. I walked away felling sad.
As I was getting ready to head home, I fell a tug on my jacket. I turned around and the little boy was standing there with a smile on his face. He told me, "My heart is changing colors. It is getting brighter. I think those hugs really work."
On my way home, I felt my own heart had changed into a brighter color.

In fact, we insisted so much that my father had no choice but to agree. “Yes!” he finally said.“This year we will have a Christmas tree.” Our mouths dropped open at the thought of having our own tree. Then Dad said,“I’ll do it myself.”
We followed him around the house as he gathered up the materials he would need, We all sat close to him, carefully watching everything he did. He passed the thread around the first nail on the corner of a box, then back down to the second nail on the box, and up again to the nail, until right there before our eyes a green a Christmas tree began to take shape. He carefully did the same with all of the 50 nails in the box and when he had finished he said,“Now you can decorate it.”
I don’t remember where the decorations came from, but they were red and small and to us they just looked so beautiful and perfect for our tree. When we finished decorating it, we proudly invited all our friends over to see our Christmas tree. We were so happy, not only because it looked so pretty, but because my father had made it himself. After a few minutes there is a very weak light in the east, and then I hear a bird singing. It sings very loud and very clear. "That's the robin(知更鸟)," says Jim. A few more birds start singing with the robin and Jim knows the names of them too. Half an hour later, there are more and more birds singing, and it's very loud! Suddenly, all around us the air is full of the sound of birdsong. This is the dawn chorus(晨鸣), and it's beautiful.
"Wow, this is amazing!" I tell Jim, who is smiling. "Is there a dawn chorus every morning?"
"Birds can sing any time of the year but the best time is the end of winter and during the spring. This is when the birds sing most."
"Really? So, why do they sing?" I ask.
"Well, there are two reasons," explains Jim. "Most of the songbirds who sing are males. They want to find a female(雌性)so they sing to show how strong they are. The females listen and choose the best singer! The birds also sing to tell other males to go away. They need their own area; they don't like sharing with another male."
I listen to the birds; the songs seem too much to me. "Do the birds sing a special song in the morning?"
"That's a good question," replied Jim. "The successful birds have many kinds of calls and songs. Sometimes they copy the songs of other birds. This makes it sound like there are many birds in that place already and other males stay away. Also the female likes songs with different notes. Some birds, for example the European wren, have songs that contain over 700 different notes per minute!"
So, how does Jim know so much about birds? Well, he works as a volunteer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. He is trying to help the birds live in the modern world. "More and more of the birds' habitat disappears every year. The sparrow, for example, was a very common bird in the UK, now it's in danger."
By now the sun is up and the birds are quiet. It's light so they can start looking for food, they need a big breakfast after all that singing.
