Do you know all birds protect themselves by always listening and watching out for danger? At the smallest sign of it, they will fly away. Birds that cannot fly are often able to swim fast, or run quickly.
Some birds make themselves look bigger and more dangerous by fluffing (动) their feathers. Another important protection for many birds is their colors. Their feathers often have colors that match the things around their nests (巢) . Some birds change colors with the seasons. In the winter they are white to match the snow. In the summer they are brown to match the ground.
People sometimes kill birds without meaning to. When people cut down forests to build houses and factories, they destroy the homes and food of birds. If the birds have nowhere else to go and nothing to eat, they will die out. Pollution may cause some birds to die. Birds that catch fish from polluted water get poison in their bodies. Then they cannot lay healthy eggs. New birds can’t be born.
Now people protect birds by passing the laws to control hunting and pollution, by setting up some special parks where all the birds are safe from hunters, and by teaching people to care about birds rather than kill them.

Chimpanzees are not only social animals living in communities and working together, but they are smart in many different ways. For over 40 years, people have been studying chimps both in the wild and in captivity (圈养). One thing they have learned is that chimpanzees and their natural habitats—or where they live in the wild-need to be protected.
In 1960, a researcher named Jane Goodall began to live with and study wild chimpanzees in Africa. She learned that they are highly intelligent animals that communicate with gestures and physical contact. They make tools to find food, they possess innate (天生的) decision-making skills, and they make choices about which groups to join and what foods to eat. Chimps cooperate to hunt and often share the food they have caught. In captivity, where they live in zoos and science centers, they can be taught American Sign Language so that they can communicate with their hands. There have even been experiments which show that a few chimpanzees have learned to use computers and to play games! Some scientists argue that chimpanzees can show emotions such as happiness or sadness.
Although chimpanzees are impressive and intelligent animals, their safety is in danger every day. In the wild they can be found in 21 different African countries, living in forests. Chimpanzees are able to adapt (适应) to changes in their environment. They can move to a new place, make new nests, and find new foods. Yet people are destroying their natural habitats. By cutting down trees for firewood and using the space to build houses, humans leave chimpanzees with smaller areas to live in.
Chimpanzees are in danger, and all eyes should be on them. Fortunately many organizations and researchers have started to take steps to protect them. Everyone should be aware of their work and it is important to help these amazing animals.

Hello. We are students from Thailand, and we want to save the elephants. The elephant is one of Thailand’s symbols. Our first flag had a white elephant on it. This is a symbol of good luck.
Elephants are smart animals. They can play soccer or music. They can also draw very well. People say that “an elephant never forgets”. Elephants can walk for a long time and never get lost. They can also remember places with food and water. This helps them to live.
But elephants are in great danger. People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their homes. People also kill elephants for their ivory. Today there are only about 3000 elephants (over 100,000 before). We must save the trees and not buy things made of ivory. Remember that March 13th is Thai Elephant Day.

Being patient is hard for many children, but it can be important for their future. It can also help kids stay calm in stressful situations. You know good stuff comes at the end of a growing season — like yummy fruit or pretty flowers — kids have to wait for it. For instance a carrot seed can take between 70 and 80 days to mature (成熟). When kids develop a garden, for longer-growth plants they can create a garden journal to record the progress of their seedling with words drawings or photos.
Studies suggest that kindness can help kids develop empathy (同理心). “Being kind helps children develop positive relationships,” scientists say. “It can also help them manage feelings of anxiety and depression.” When kids realize that a garden is full of living things that need their help to grow, they would like to pay more attention to caring about them. Let kids plant garden helpers like thyme and tansy, which both keep away bad bugs. Kids can also release good ladybugs which eat aphids (蚜虫) on plants like roses.
Children who see themselves as more responsible often feel better about themselves. And learning to take responsibility for their choices teaches kids how to choose between right and wrong. Looking after any kind of garden — even a small window box — need constant (不断的) hard work to make sure that the plants grow well. Allow kids to be in charge of a single container or a small part of a bigger garden for which they’re totally responsible.

How do we know about things that happened thousands of years ago when there were no videos or photos? One answer is written records. The earliest written records of Chinese civilization are known as oracle bone inscriptions (甲骨文).
More than 3,000 years ago, people in the Shang Dynasty (about 16th—11th century BC) liked to ask fortune tellers (占卜师) about the future. For example, what will the weather be like next week? Where should I go to make money? Will my wife give birth to a boy or a girl? From work to love, people asked questions about many topics. The fortune teller would write the question on an oracle bone, heat it up, and then read the cracks (裂纹) in it to find an answer.
Tens of thousands of oracle bones have been found so far. They can tell us a great deal about how people lived during the Shang Dynasty. “They help us understand the origins of Chinese philosophy (哲学) and thought, and figure out where our culture comes from,” Song Zhenhao, a leading oracle bone expert, told China Daily.
In addition to telling us about ancient Chinese culture, the oracle bones are also key to understanding the growth and development of the written form of the Chinese language. Many of the characters we use today are similar to those used 3,000 years ago. “The oracle bone inscriptions, as the earliest-known mature (成熟的) form of Chinese characters, represent the beauty and uniqueness (唯一) of a language that has been passed down,” said Chen Nan, a professor at Tsinghua University.
In 2017, UNESCO added oracle bone inscriptions to its Memory of the World Register (世界记忆名录). They are indeed a valuable memory of ancient China.

When the world fought against the COVID-19, many museums took action to remember life under lockdown (封锁): “When we knew there was going to be a lockdown, we talked about what we could collect for the future, ”said Beatrice Behlen. The Museum of London then began a plan which asks Londoners to give it things that could show their life during the COVD-19. It could be something about a new skill they have learned, such as cooking or making masks for medical workers.
What about people’s feelings, such as sadness, fear, hope and love during the lockdowm? How could they be collected? The Museum of Home, also in London, got an idea. It was asking people to send it videos. One family had recorded how they set up a screen in front of their table so they could share a meal with other family members through the Internet.
In Sweden, the Nordiska Museet, the country’s largest museum of cultural history, was collecting information about how children’ daily life had changed and how they thought about the future. In Austria, photos of a birthday party in lockdown were being collected by Vienna’s Wien Museum.
