Because of water shortage. they could only plant corn and potatoes to live on. and rice was a valuable food during the Spring Festival. At that time, there was no electricity and not any roads in the village, earning it the name of the “poorest part” of Guizhou.

With enough water, people started to grow rice. Huang then helped the villagers increase the rice-growing land to 31. 968 m2.

A common day for Zheng Tao, 34, is spent with vegetables. Each of his “mystery veg boxes” has seven to eight kinds of seasonal vegetables. Zheng offers two types (类型) of veg boxes: 2 kilos (36.8 yuan) and 4 kilos (72.8 yuan). All vegetables are planted in the open air without chemicals (化学物质). “The number of each kind of vegetables is just enough for one or two meals to avoid waste,” said Zheng, who left his job in the city to become a new farmer in his hometown.
The idea of the mystery veg box came by accident. In July 2021, Zheng’s parents produced more vegetables than the family needed. Then he shared some pictures of the vegetables online and asked if anyone wanted them. After a couple of minutes, he got four to five orders. Two weeks later, Zheng started his veg box business.
His vegetables got very popular. At its peak, Zheng sold more than 200 kilo blind boxes daily. That was more than 600 kg of vegetables. To offer vegetables to more customers, the new farmer rented (租) some land in July 2022 and began working with local villagers.
In the future, Zheng wants to build a place where customers can plant, pick, and even process vegetables by themselves. “Many office workers are tired of stressful life in cities. Here, they can have a break by enjoying the beauty and fun of nature,” Zheng said.

It was at the age of 20 that Hawking first noticed something was wrong with him. He started to bump(碰撞) into things. When he visited his family at Christmas time, his mother was so worried that she made him see a doctor. Hawking was sent to hospital for tests. Finally, the result came back. Doctors said they had no way to help him. He would die before he was 23.
At first, Hawking became very sad, after a while, though, he began to see his life in a different way. As he later wrote, “Before my illness was diagnosed(诊断), I had been very bored with life. There had not seemed to be anything worth doing. But shortly after I came out of hospital, I suddenly realized that there were a lot of worthwhile things I could do.” Hawking married, found a job at Cambridge University, and had three children. He also went on to do some of the most important scientific research.
Today, Hawking still works at Cambridge University as a professor. He strongly believes that his story shows that nobody, however bad their situation is, should lose hope. “Life is not fair,” he once said. “You just have to do the best you can in your own situation.”
