I had the habit of skipping (略读) to the last pages of a book. I just wanted to see how it ended while I was still in the _________ of it. He decided to accept his face and feel confident (自信的) in himself. He has made a decision to live an amazing life.

It's hard when you feel like you don't look "normal" or "perfect". But the truth is, no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like.

These days, short videos have got millions of views online. Many people create and share short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can also add music and special effects (特效) to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, exercising and singing.

Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of students in Grade 7 and Grade 8 said they enjoy watching these short videos. About 47 percent have posted their own videos, according to a recent report.

The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things they wouldn’t usually see. Many teenagers like to share the fun things they do with others as well. For example, a 12­-year­-old user named Xiao Qianyu has posted (上传) videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.

However, the videos can also bring trouble. Some students spend too much time watching them and don’t spend enough time studying. Some videos have vulgar content (内容) that is not good for teenagers’ mind.

To deal with (处理) this problem, Douyin added something new in April. It stops the app if someone uses the app for over two hours a day. In the same month, the government also did something to stop vulgar content videos from video apps.

Scientists are not alone in the fight against the novel coronavirus( 新 型 冠 状 病 毒 ), as new technologies and innovative(创新的) products are giving them a hand. Here are some examples.

Big date (大数据)

Our smartphones send data to telecom companies around the clock, telling these companies where we have been and where we are going. Chinese telecom companies provide governments with this data. They use the data to track ( 追 踪 ) traffic flows among different provinces and cities. By tracking how many people are coming and going out of Wuhan, the center of the outbreak, telecom companies can   send warnings to areas that are being visited by large numbers of people from Wuhan.

Drones

Drones (无人机) have played a major role in disinfection (消毒) and preventing cross-infection(交叉感染) in crowded places like hospitals, railway stations and airports.

Police officers use drones to give warnings. For example, if people gather in large groups or do not wear masks, drones with cameras can record and send images of these people in real time to control rooms. The drones will then warn these people.

Robots

Robots are good helpers on the frontlines. They are used at hospitals to offer medical advice, deliver drugs or meals, act like guides, perform disinfection, measure patients’ body temperatures and do other repetitive work. In this way, robots can not only help greatly reduce the burden for medical workers, but also reduce the risk of cross-infection. They have also been used in public places like train stations and airports to check temperatures.
