It said, “Last night, a gentleman with the name of ‘Jack’ put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to get it soon.”
④Later his classmate asked the artist, “You are a student and you need money to pay the tuition for further study in the college. Why don’t you keep the lottery ticket to yourself?” The artist said, “Although I don’t have much money, I live happily. But if I lose honesty, I won’t be happy forever.”

One day, my mother was sewing (缝) a quilt. I silently sat down beside her and looked at her.
“Mom, I have a question to ask you,” I said after a while.
“What?” she replied, still doing her work.
“Is there love between you and Dad?” I asked her in a very low voice.
My mother stopped her work and raised her head with surprise in her eyes. She didn’t answer at once and continued to sew the quilt. I was very worried because I thought I had hurt her. I was embarrassed and I didn’t know what I should do. But at last I heard my mother say the following words:
“Susan,” she said thoughtfully, “Look at this thread(线). Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread really makes the quilt strong and durable(耐用的). If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it’s really there. Love is inside.”
I listened carefully but I couldn’t understand her until the next spring. At that time, my father suddenly got sick seriously. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month. When they returned from the hospital, they both looked very weak. It seemed both of them had had a serious illness. After they were back, every day in the morning and in the evening, my mother helped my father walk slowly on the country road. My father had never been so gentle. The doctor had said my father would get well in two months. But after two months he still couldn’t walk by himself. Both of us were worried about him.
“Dad, how are you feeling now?” I asked him one day.
“Susan, don’t worry about me.” he said gently. “To tell you the truth, I just like walking with your mom. I like this kind of life.” Reading his eyes, I know he loves my mother deeply.
Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses. But from this experience, I understand that love is just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

I stopped my car at once and ran toward her. This little girl knew enough to run from a stranger. I tried tocatch her in order that I could get her out of the road.
Suddenly her father came running down a hill across the road from where I had parked my car. He ran right to her and caught her up, saying “bad girl” to her. I picked up the stroller and gave it to him. The father grabbed the stroller and walked toward where he came from without a word.
I went back and sat in my car for a few minutes with my son. My hands were shaking and tears were about to run out of my eyes. “Do you feel cold, Mom?” asked my son. I just shook my head.
After this happened, I thought about how thankful I am. Even though the father didn’t say thank you, I feel that I did something good. Doing something for someone else is pleasing, even when it’s only a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
I didn’t really “save” her, but I feel like it was important that I happened to be there. It is sad that I was the only one who stopped. It really made me a little disappointed that no one else stopped to help.

Bobby is at the airport. He is traveling home with his parents by plane. When waiting to board (登机) , Bobby is a little bored so he starts to play with his favorite toy—a teddy bear. When his parents ask him to board, he quickly follows his parents and forgets to take his teddy bear. When Bobby is on the plane, he can’t find his bear anywhere. His parents can’t find it, either. At last, they go back home without the bear and Bobby cries all the way home.

We want to make the experience special to Bobby. So we invite Bobby and his family to the airport to get his teddy bear back. When I give the teddy bear to Bobby, he is very happy.

It was a nice sunny day when we went to skydive. We took a 6-hour course and were ready to subdue(征服) the sky. Unluckily, the weather changed. It began to rain. We had to wait until the next weekend. We were really excited. However, when the next weekend came, we finally did it.
Wow, it was exciting! I couldn’t express all the feelings of free flight. I was happy, frightened, excited, and satisfied. All of these feelings happened at the same time. I could see the earth below me as I flew like a bird with my parachute.
The last couple of seconds, I realized I could not land the ground because right under me there was a tree! I didn’t have time to think about it. I landed in the tree, but it was a smooth landing. I got a lot of help from my classmates. I have never forgotten this special experience.

The story of this little book began when the brothers were still in school. And it started with a good teacher. The teacher liked to find out how things happened. Soon the two brothers were doing the same thing. They asked questions and then looked for answers.
Among the questions the brothers asked, “Who made up the old fairy tales? Who first told about Cinderella ? Why made up the story of the Snow White and the story of Sleeping Beauty?”They found that no one knew the answers to such questions. The tales were made up in very early times. Most of them were made up in the days before people knew how to write. People told the stories to one another and to their children. But only a few old people still remembered them.
“When old people die, the stories will die with them,” said the brothers. “We must write down all the stories we can find.”
Jacob and William hunted for stories for five years. At last they had 89 tales written. Just before Christmas in 1812, the first book was published.
