What season is it in October? If you ask people from UK, they will tell you it’s “autumn”. But if you go to US, you will find that people use “autumn” or “fall”.
According toDictionary.com, both words have been around for a long time, but neither of them was first to describe this season. During this season, crops would become ripe(成熟)and farmers would have a big harvest. So in Old English, this season was simply called “harvest”.
Then, in the 1600s, more people left their farms and moved to cities. With fewer people farming, the word “harvest” became less useful. English speakers needed a different name for the season. They knew leaves fell from trees during the season, so people started calling it “the fall of the leaf”, or “fall” for short.
But at the end of the 1600s, autumn, from the French word “autompne” and the Latin “autumnus”, came to English. “Fall” as the word for this season disappeared slowly.
At the same time, people in UK were making their first trip to North America. They brought the words “fall” and “autumn” with them. That’s why today Americans have two names for one season.
1. What do people call the season in October in UK?2. Why did people call this season “harvest” in Old English?
3. When did “harvest” become less useful?
4. What word replaced “harvest”?

Where would you go if you needed to find out about the capital (首都) of Brazil (巴西)? Where would you share pictures of yourself with friends? The Internet, of course!
The Internet makes our lives more convenient (方便) than it was in the past. But along with the good comes the bad. If you think the Internet is a safe place, then think again. Like in the real world, some things might be bad on the Internet, so it’s important to learn how to stay safe online.
First, you should never give out your personal information online: your name, your address, your phone number, your birth date, etc. Check with an adult (成年人) before providing any of this information for anyone.
Second, choose email addresses and screen names carefully. Make sure they don’t reveal (透露) personal information about you. For example, don’t use your real name as your screen name! Passwords (密码) should also be nearly impossible to guess.
Third, remember the Internet can spread (传播) things around quickly. Anything you post (发布) might be seen by everyone. If you wouldn’t want a friend to see something, it’s probably something you shouldn’t post in the first place.
Finally, don’t do or say things online that you wouldn’t do or say in person. Treat others as you want to be treated—both in the real world and online. If you ever feel like you’re being cyberbullied (网络欺凌), be sure to report it to an adult!

【推荐1】Most students have had a love-hate experience relationship with procrastination(拖延症). We all come up with magic ways to bring ourselves moments of joy to relieve our stress and productivity. When deadlines come near, though these moments of lost time often become regrettable. Here are tips to help you reduce this age-old practice.
Set goals
Students often procrastinate because they think that they can put off the work for a while and enjoy their time at the moment. This thought is likely to worsen the situation, though, when the deadline becomes one day away and the task has yet to be started. In order to stay on track, you should set and update goals. It can be important to mark all deadlines in a planner and think about how much time you need to meet them all.
Reward yourself
In order to keep productivity and mind levels up, set breaks at the end of a period of time or once you finish a section of your work. Then you can reward yourself with some deserved, planned, and controlled activities: have a coffee with a friend, cook, or watch an episode of television show. Breaks like these are proven to increase productivity and keep you focused, and they will make the process of studying much more bearable!
Turn off the Internet
If you do not need the Internet to do your work, turn it off so that you are not receiving notifications while completing your work. The same goes for your cell phone; you can take a break from being connected to the Internet world in order to do your school work. If you feel the need to check messages and websites often, set times when you will allow yourself to do so rather than constantly staying connected.
Have something to look forward to
Being productive for all hours of every day does not work—you do need breaks. So, in order to balance productivity and entertainment, plan time to go out with friends or do something relaxing to complement your school work. Ideally, social and relaxation plans should be made for after an important task is completed. This way, while you are working, you can keep in mind that once you have finished your work, you can go out and not worry about your work.

5. According to the passage, how many tips can help you on volunteer work?
Both the young and the old may feel lonely. A three-year-old child will feel lonely when it is left alone, and an old man over eighty years old is often afraid to live alone, too.
Some people feel lonely because they may not have enough time to make friends. Not only the quiet, shy people may feel lonely. Some people are active and outgoing, but they are sometimes afraid to talk and make friends with others. They always try to hold other people away from them. They may seem to have lots of friends, but inside they are hurting.
Are you lonely? If your answer is “yes”, you may need to work hard to overcome it! Here are some tips to think about:
To be wanted and needed is a big answer to loneliness. Is there any way you can help other people? (3).Try to do something helpful for others even if you are very busy. By helping other people, we find friends and lose loneliness.
Do you have an interest or hobby? Find a group of people with this interest and join them.
Live in the real world! The world on the Internet is not a real world and it is very different from the real life. (4).The students asleep in class are mostly those who often surf the net through the night. As a result, they’ll get lost in the real world.
Don’t wait for someone to phone, or write, or email you, you call them. And if they seem too busy, it doesn’t mean you are not welcome. Try another time!
When you’ve done anything wrong to other people, don’t be too proud to say sorry. You must do that even if you find it hard to open your mouth.
