Some schools used to measure (判定) the success of students according to grades, but now they pay special attention to moral (道德的) education and character-building to make sure teenagers achieve success in building human relationships.
Schools give chances to students to discover their hidden ability so that they can achieve success. For example, students who are good at speaking skills are advised to take part in speech competitions, and those interested in dancing are encouraged to perform in front of their classmates. Teenagers also get the pleasure of success when they join their favorite clubs.
Teenagers are often told that success is not easy to achieve and that success lies in hard work. Great efforts have to be put into project work. Teenagers are less likely to do things later than planned because this will lead to mountains of work and will finally make them nervous. Another good quality (品质) is a sense of responsibility which makes them remember that a task has to be completed.
Sticking to moral values is the key to success too. Honest teenagers will win the trust of friends and develop good relationships. Self-motivation (自我激励) is another quality to be developed. This autumn school term, students in Grade 7 will become the first group of students in the capital to take part in the adjusted(调整的)system for middle school students.
In December, 2021, education authorities(官方)in Beijing announced changes to physical education, which will finally be applied during all nine years of compulsory school education. “Education authorities will add more progress assessments(过程性评价)to PE course to encourage children to start physical exercise at an earlier age and do it on a regular basis,” Li Yi, a spokesman for the government, said at a news conference.
According to the new assessment rules, the junior school students must choose four sports for their PE exams from a list of 22 sports, including running, jump rope, standing long jump, table tennis, badminton, swimming and gymnastics. Fourteen new sports were added to the list.
Zhao Xing, a mother of two school-age children, says she is pleased that swimming has been added to the program as her 5-year-old son loves the sport and he often practices swimming. However, she wonders if her daughter will benefit from the changes as she is not a fan of sports.
However, the new PE assessment rules have raised the concern of some parents who worry that the burden of competition will become too much for the children after more sports are added to the list.
“I’m wondering whether I should ask my son to take more after-school courses such as badminton and swimming in order to help him get higher PE scores,” said Dong Pingping, a mother of a junior school student. “He is already fully occupied with other subjects. A new course means more money and energy need to be spent.”
Li, the spokesman, said that the list of 22 sports may be changed. “The list will be adjusted according to the social economic growth, popularity of every sport, as well as the students’ physical quality development,” he added.

② Plogging, a new trend (趋势) to exercise, began in Sweden (瑞典). The name “plogging” comes from two Swedish words. One is “ploeka”, which means “to pick up”, and the other word is “jogging”, which means “to run slowly”.
③ A Swedish man called Erik started the movement. He saw rubbish here and there when riding to work each day. He became worried about the dirty environment and decided not to go to work by bike any more. Instead, he began to run to work and pick up the rubbish at the same time. To his surprise, more and more people followed him and soon plogging became popular.
④ Many people choose plogging instead of just jogging because they think plogging is a good way to help clean up the earth. Lydia runs four or five times a week. While running, she picks up rubbish along the way. “It just takes a moment to stop and pick something up off the ground. But it makes a big difference to my neighborhood. Now my husband also joins me.” Lydia says proudly. “It doesn’t matter how much rubbish I pick up. It’s a good way to save our earth.”
⑤ Another reason for plogging’s popularity is that plogging burns more calories (卡路里). According to scientists, plogging for 10 minutes burns 48 calories. While jogging for 10 minutes burns about 39 calories.
