Millions of years ago, dinosaurs (恐龙) controlled the earth. And there were different types of dinosaurs on the earth. Some of them were no bigger than chickens, but all of them had very small brains (大脑). Later on, there weren’t any dinosaurs. What happened to them?

In the days of dinosaurs, the whole earth was warm and wet. There were many green forests. But the earth changed slowly all the time. When parts of the earth became cold and dry, the forests there died. Then dinosaurs could not find enough food to eat. This must be one reason why dinosaurs died out.

What’s another reason? We can make a guess. New kinds of animals came to the earth. Some had big brains and were fast and strong. They could kill dinosaurs. Some ate dinosaur eggs, too.

There may be other reasons that we do not know about. Each year, people will find some dinosaur footprints (脚印) and bones. Scientists are trying to tell us more about dinosaurs.

文章大意:本文介绍了狗在人类世界生活的例子,狗和人类之间有良好的关系。

【推荐1】Today, by carefully choosing dog parents, humans have created many different kinds of dogs. Each kind has its own look and talents, and its own role within human society. Here are three examples of “a dog’s life” in the human world.

Today, many hospitals let specially trained dogs in to bring love and cheer to patients. Shaynee is a therapy dog. She visits children who are in hospital. Dogs like Shaynee help patients feel calm and at peace, which can be hard in a busy hospital. They help both children and adults stay strong during long hospital stays, and even help them get better.

Today, some beagles (小猎犬) work in airports for the government. They are part of the program called the Beagle Brigade. A beagle is good for the work because of its powerful nose, and ability to follow smells. The Beagle Brigade’s job is to smell everything that comes into the country. They make officers notice illegal (非法的) fruits, vegetables and other foods in luggage or in mail. The beagles do the job far better than any human could.

While some dogs are working hard, others are free to spend their days resting and playing. Across the world, many pet dogs are treated like children. Many have their own rooms and all the things a dog could want. Some even have their own clothes. Many of these pets spend their days playing, learning to follow, or even going to classes. Their owners give them the best, and enjoy doing so.

Whether as workers or objects of affection (钟情), dogs have become helpful to humans in many ways. There are plenty of advantages for the dog, too. Many kinds of wild dogs have nearly disappeared from the Earth. However, the domestic dog’s special place as “man’s best friend” has allowed it to survive in a human world.

1. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.Dogs can take care of patients.B.Patients need love in the hospital.

【推荐3】Making Friends with Ducks

In traditional pet stores, you can buy an animal to be your companion at home. But there’s a new kind of “pet store” where you can spend some time with animals and just walk away without taking any of them with you. What really matters is to be there.

My colleagues and I visited one of these stores in the Sanlitun neighborhood of Beijing. We were looking for Call ducks (柯尔鸭), a Dutch species of pet ducks. They are famous for their cute looks and their sky-high prices—one of them can easily cost a few thousand yuan. Since we were not planning to spend so much on a duck any time soon, visiting them in one of these places—what I'd call “mini-zoos”—seemed to be the perfect choice.

There were five Gall ducks at the store and we spent a good three hours with them. We learned a lot about the species.

Call ducks are not as obedient enough to follow what they are told to do as dogs, so playing with them takes a lot of chasing from our side and quacking (呱呱叫) from theirs. Also, don’t expect them to be house-trained—one of the ducks actually pooped (排便) while sitting on my lap. But none of this took the pleasure out of holding them in my hands and touching their full chests.

That’s the magic of animals—you are refreshed again.

4. The writer wants to tell us________.
A.Sanlitun is a good choice to relax
B.the trip to mini-zoos is very refreshing
C.spending time with animals is fashionable
D.keeping pets at sky-high prices is unnecessary
5. What would be another title for this passage?
A.To Own Is TraditionalB.To Touch Is Magic
C.To Be There Is EnoughD.To Visit Is Cheap
